What makes someone want to get involved in a clinical trial?

For Adriana, it wasn’t just about her own treatment options, but about contributing to research and ultimately providing new options to other women with breast cancer.

Adriana also learned so much from her experience that she is now one of our consumer advisors for clinical trials.

Find out more about participating in a clinical trial on our website, link below. 👇

The Rosebud Hospital Kiosk is a much‑loved part of Bayside Health Peninsula and the local community – and now we’re looking for more volunteers to join the team.

Since it first opened, the kiosk has proudly raised over $500,000 for Rosebud Hospital, helping fund life‑saving medical equipment. This incredible achievement is all thanks to the dedication of our wonderful volunteers.

“Most of the funds come from selling sandwiches and plenty of coffee,” shares Kiosk President Helen. “We also sell lots of knick-knacks like baby clothes, toys, lollies and jewellery.”

“Rosebud is an exceptional community hospital – I’m so proud that our kiosk has raised funds to help improve services for our local community.”

If you’d like to get involved, we’d love to hear from you.

“My job is to look after people — to be that first person they see as they come through the door. I love meeting everyone and feeling connected, and I feel appreciated for what I do,” explains Julie.

Julie is one of our Greet and Guide volunteers, who is there to assist you through the hospital and point you in the right direction.

Running late for an appointment? Visiting a patient? She’s there to help.

With construction works still underway at the East Entrance, volunteers like Julie are there to provide assistance. If you are going to the Main Entrance from the East Entrance, follow the yellow line or ask one of volunteers like Julie for help.

What are your time saving hacks? For Frankston resident Belinda, it’s being able to have her podiatry appointments while sitting in the dialysis chair. 🦶

“It saves me time, it means I can work,” says Belinda. “All of my specialists are on dialysis days. That way I’m not having to come into the hospital every day of the week.”

With over 100 participants, our renal podiatry program is the largest in the state, operating across our sites at Frankston, Rosebud and Hastings. It provides a proactive and highly responsive service to people with complex health conditions, and means they don’t have to wait for a GP or private podiatry appointment when they have foot concerns.

Meet Millie ⭐

One of the first friendly faces you’ll see at Peninsula University Hospital, Millie leads the Reception and Switchboard team.

Whether she’s welcoming visitors, answering calls, or announcing emergency codes, Millie keeps the hospital connected and running smoothly.

“No two days are the same. I like knowing that what I do helps people, and I enjoy being there for them,” she says.

That support can be as simple as giving directions – or as meaningful as accompanying a nervous patient in the lift to help them feel at ease.

Visiting the hospital soon? Don’t hesitate to ask Millie and her friendly team for help at the front desk.

Great news for women’s health in our community.

Bayside Health Peninsula Nurse Practitioner Cathy Halmarick has completed advanced specialist training and is now one of three Nurse Practitioners in Australia able to perform colposcopy.

This means even stronger support for our weekly colposcopy service and improved access to vital cervical cancer prevention.

💛 Who needs cervical screening?

If you:
✔️ Are aged 25–74,
✔️ Have a cervix, and
✔️ Have ever been sexually active.
You need a cervical screening test every five years — even if you’ve had the HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) vaccine.

🔍 When is a colposcopy needed?
You may be referred for a colposcopy following your cervical screening test to investigate a persistent or high risk strain of HPV. This procedure helps determine whether treatment is required or if regular monitoring is sufficient.

💬 Need support?
Our Sexual & Reproductive Health Hub is here to help.
Visit our website to learn more about our Women’s Health services, or speak with your GP.

Keeping our community healthy starts with early detection — so if you’re due for your cervical screening test, don’t put it off. Contact your healthcare provider today.

Empowering and uplifting women isn’t just part of Koori Midwife Danielle’s job – it’s her calling.

At Bayside Health Peninsula, she provides culturally safe, flexible care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women throughout their pregnancy. From answering questions to connecting women with social, financial and community supports, her role is about meeting each woman where she feels safest and most supported.

“I love working with women – I love sharing in their journey and getting to know them,” she reflects.

This International Women’s Day, we celebrate Danielle’s dedication and the strength of the women she walks alongside every day.

🌟 Can AI Help Spot Dementia Earlier?

Dementia is affecting more Australians every year, and many people don’t get diagnosed early. This can make being in hospital more challenging for them and their loved ones.

Dr Alicia Lu, a geriatrician at our National Centre for Healthy Ageing, is studying how AI (Artificial Intelligence) can help. She’s using information hospitals already collect — like doctors’ notes and test results — to see whether AI can pick up signs of dementia that might otherwise be missed.

Why this matters:
• people can get the right care sooner
• hospitals can plan safer, more supportive treatment
• families can get earlier access to advice and services

We will share more updates on this research as it progresses.
