In Conversation with Dr Fi: The Rise of ‘Ozempic Face’

A key topic emerging from recent industry conferences is the growing use of GLP-1 medications and their impact on facial ageing. As weight loss occurs, facial fat is often reduced—leading to a loss of volume and, in some cases, a more aged appearance.

The best approach is to treat the face alongside the weight loss journey. A tailored, multi-modality plan focused on restoring volume, supporting collagen, and maintaining facial harmony is essential to achieving balanced, natural-looking results.

While these medications can be highly effective for weight loss, it’s important to understand that lost facial volume doesn’t naturally return in the same way. From an aesthetic perspective, facial fullness is closely linked to a more youthful appearance—making proactive treatment and expert guidance key.

In conversation with Dr Fiona: Why being first to try a new-to-market treatment isn’t always best.

In cosmetic medicine, new treatments often generate excitement—but over time, we learn more about how to use them effectively. Some treatments come and go, only to return later once techniques have improved and practitioners better understand how to achieve the best results.

That’s why it’s so important to do your research and choose a provider who prioritises safety, experience, and ongoing education. The right practitioner will always do their due diligence—guiding you on when a treatment is appropriate for you, and when it’s not.

Understanding Risk in Cosmetic Medicine.

All cosmetic procedures carry some level of risk — this is true for any medical treatment. While risk can never be completely eliminated, it’s important to choose a practitioner who understands how to minimise risks and manage complications should they arise.

This can be achieved through:

• Comprehensive consultations
• Ongoing training and professional development
• A strong understanding of facial anatomy
• Ensuring the benefits of treatment outweigh the potential risks

At Face Medicine, we take a personalised and considered approach to every patient. Through detailed consultations, we assess your individual anatomy and goals to determine the most appropriate and safe treatment plan for you.

In conversation with Dr Fiona: why more isn’t always better.

Madonna is often referenced in discussions around cosmetic treatments — a reminder that more doesn’t always mean better results.

True aesthetic work is about balance and respecting the natural facial anatomy. That’s why choosing a practitioner who understands when to say no is so important — someone who prioritises enhancing your natural features, rather than overpowering them.

Discover why we love LED Healite as the perfect in-clinic finishing treatment.

Originally developed by NASA, LED light therapy works by penetrating the dermis to stimulate cellular renewal, healing and skin regeneration. When used alongside other skin treatments, it helps calm the skin, support recovery and minimise downtime.

Be sure to add LED to your next appointment — it’s the most relaxing way to finish your treatment.
