" My kids don't eat lollies or chocolates and they brush their teeth....why are they still getting cavities? " Many frustrated parents have asked our Dentists this and so we gathered there must be many more wanting to know the reason behind this.
The reason being is that not all sugars are sweet. Foods which are high in carbohydrates e.g. chips break down into sugars which then cause tooth decay. It's not about how much kids eat but about how FREQUENTLY they eat. Snacking too often is worse for their teeth, as they are continuously exposed and coated by food particles.
Solution: Try to divide eating for your kids to around 4-5 food episodes each day, such as breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. Don't forget to brush their teeth twice a day too. This will minimise cavities and give your kids a pain free healthy mouth!
