https://events.humanitix.com/climate-anxiety-open-mic This is a free event; however, spaces are limited so bookings are essential.
The night will begin with a brief introduction to Go Beyond Gas with time for questions. Then Annolies Truman, professional counsellor and educator, will facilitate a reflective segment, allowing us to acknowledge concerns and emotions in a non-judgemental, collaborative environment, and address them through creative writing to discover/reinforce realistic hope and meaningful action.
Then we will have an open mic with an amp and microphone available. Music, poetry, artwork and creative expression of all genres are welcome. Whatever form your expression of eco-distress takes is fair game! Please remember this is a safe space for all.

Get tickets on Humanitix - Climate Anxiety Open Mic. The Local Hotel, 282 South Terrace, South Fremantle WA 6162, Australia. Tuesday 4th June 2024. Find event information.

I had a great response to my eco-distress presentation to the ACA WA Chapter meeting on Saturday. Thanks to the 40+ counsellors who registered and interacted with my material. It was good to share our wisdom and experience of grappling with this difficult but necessary issue.

Eco-anxiety is an appropriate response to the environmental crisis we see unfolding. But how do we deal with our feelings of grief, anger and fear? This reflective workshop will allow you to acknowledge concerns in a respectful environment, and address them through creative writing and drawing, connection to nature and one another, mindful self-compassion, realistic hope and meaningful action. Previous participants describe finding hope, collaboration, inspiration and commitment. Bring a notebook, pen, pastels/crayons, hat and lunch.

Being a health care professional in our current environment can be highly demanding. Health care workers have reported to me that they were stressed, overworked, overwhelmed, or even burning out. While at KEMH, I was given an opportunity to trial a Wellbeing program for staff which provided brief sessions to address workplace stress and build mutual support amongst staff. I am now working outside of WA Health where I offer individual or group reflective supervision, workshops and counselling to health professionals in areas of:
• Workplace stress
• Vicarious trauma
• Self-care and self-compassion
• Professional boundaries
• Managing change
• Managing conflict
• Cross-cultural communication
• Exploring values and reconnecting to a sense of purpose
I find that engaging in reflective supervision leads to greater balance, clarity and agency.

The naming of body image activist Taryn Brumfitt as Australian of the Year has highlighted the importance of accepting and loving our bodies. This can be especially challenging during cancer or other serious illnesses, when the illness itself or its treatment can change how we look and feel about our bodies. A negative self-image can affect our confidence, our relationships (to ourself and others), our sexuality and our whole outlook on life. If you are grappling with this or other significant life changes, talk to someone you trust. If your friends and family find the topic difficult, seek peer support or contact a counsellor.

Treatment for cancer can change how your body looks and works. How you feel about yourself (your self-esteem) may be affected by: removal of a body part

The growing environmental crisis is causing increasing distress and anxiety amongst people who are concerned about our common future.
I facilitate supportive workshops and group and individual counselling for people distressed by and grappling with the ecological crisis and supervision for those already working in this space.
I use compassion and connection to nurture clients’ wellbeing, and creativity to foster individual or collective responses, often in the form of imaginative, life-affirming projects and actions.
The objectives are threefold: healing of the individual, the community and the planet.
