As a paediatric music therapist, I often witness how music can support the early relationships between babies and their caregivers. These first relationships are crucial to shaping the brain and the way a child begins to understand the world around them.

This week is a reminder that nurturing connection is care. Infant mental health is not about diagnosing babies. It is about recognising their emotional needs, supporting their development, and creating safe, responsive environments where they feel seen and soothed.

In my music therapy work, i work hard to ensure that the social, emotional and developmental needs of infants are understood, valued and protected right from the beginning.
