What is Diabetes? 🩺
Diabetes is a chronic condition that affects millions worldwide. It’s a metabolic disease marked by high blood glucose (or blood sugar) levels, which, if unmanaged, can lead to serious complications affecting the heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys, and nerves.
There are three main types of diabetes:
1️⃣ Type 1 Diabetes: An autoimmune condition where the body attacks insulin-producing cells.
2️⃣ Type 2 Diabetes: Often linked to lifestyle factors, it occurs when the body becomes resistant to insulin.
3️⃣ Gestational Diabetes: Develops during pregnancy and can increase the risk of Type 2 diabetes later on.
What causes high blood sugar levels?
Factors like a diet high in sugar and refined carbs, low physical activity, and stress can contribute to elevated blood glucose. Regular monitoring, a balanced diet, and staying active are key to managing and preventing spikes.
Taking small steps toward a healthier lifestyle can make a big difference. 💚 Let’s raise awareness and support those living with diabetes.
