We have a theory as to why adulting is so hard 😓

There's not enough play 🤗

We're so conditioned to always be doing, working, organising - essentially, being an adult - that we've forgotten how and why to play.

A few years ago, we started "Fun Quest". Our way of relearning to play. Anything and everything could be part of Fun Quest - the only "rule" was that had no purpose other than to be fun and joyful 💕

Yoga and Ta**ra also remind us that joy and delight in life are not just luxuries - the teachings emphasise that ananda (bliss) is our essential nature and birthright.

And kids instinctively seem to know this. They excel at play! So often when we're at the park or down at South Beach, we see kids getting upside down for no other reason than it feels good!

Kids intuitively get into what we call an inversion (poses where your heart is above your head) without even thinking about it. They're having fun 🤸

Inversions help to reverse the effect of gravity on the spine and they can also help to activate the parasympathetic nervous system (the rest and digest part).

Traditionally there are two classical inversions (shoulderstand and headstand) however we do this inverted movement all the time in class. Think standing forward bends, downward dog, legs in the air...

This week we're going to be exploring a different inversion, Ardha Pincha Mayurasana. It's literal translation is Half feather peacock pose, however you'll more commonly know this as Dolphin pose 🐬

This week think about emphasising the fun in your own practice and daily life:

◇ Be curious about moving your body into different shapes and trying something new

◇ Create social connections with your fellow yogis as you join together in practice

◇ Allow playfulness to be the focus of practice this week

◇ Use your innate intelligence to feel where and how you should move your body in class - learning to listen to your inner cues - to find your own ananda (bliss) 💕

There’s something truly special about finding a place where you feel seen, supported, and connected - a place that feels like home.

This is what we aspire to create at Mala. A vibrant community of kindred spirits, all walking the Yoga path together, lifting each other up, and celebrating life's special moments ❤️

During our 250 hour Yoga Teacher Training, you’re not just gaining skills and knowledge - you’re joining a circle of friends who become your greatest supporters.

Many graduates tell us the friendships they’ve formed here have become some of the most meaningful relationships in their lives.

"Completing teacher training with Mala was a truly life changing experience! I felt safe and supported throughout each step of the journey. By the end of training, I had not only grown personally and met some beautiful like-minded souls, but I also felt well prepared to start my teaching journey."
~ Ashleigh P, 2023 graduate

It's what makes our Teacher Training unique. You receive more than just knowledge. You also receive:

- A warm, welcoming environment where everyone’s journey is honoured
- Ongoing support from teachers who genuinely care about your growth
- Lifelong friendships that extend far beyond the studio walls
- A safe space to share, learn, and evolve both on and off the mat

This sense of belonging is the foundation that transforms self-doubt into confidence and curiosity into courage.

It’s what turns your Teacher Training into a life-changing experience.

With every new adventure each year brings, you might find - just like us - that your body has some fresh opinions about certain movements!

Wrists that don't take the weight they used to.

Knees that don't want to bend, or feel a little stiff after decades of running, cycling, weights.

The one we hear the most - stiff lower back, for no apparent reason at all sometimes.

Sometimes these little niggles knock our confidence - why can't I do this anymore? Am I wearing out??

Instead of being discouraged, it's an invitation from your body to be curious and learn to connect even deeper with yourself.

But encouragingly, not everyone agrees on the wearing out theory - our bodies have a remarkable ability to repair themselves and moving your body can make a huge difference to your overall health and wellbeing.

The way we see it, building confidence is about intimately knowing your body. How it likes to move and rest, where you have strength and where you need to adapt, when you need to use props and when you can move a little deeper.

Both Yoga and Pilates play a big role in building confidence - they help with your mind-body connection, they deepen your interoception and they help you to practice self-compassion.

Playing with standing balances is a beautiful way to be joyful in play and also build confidence as you master your version of the asana!

A simple shape but a complicated name - Utthita Hasta Padangusthasana or Extended Hand to Toe Pose (or how we might practice is Extended Strap to Foot Pose 😉) is an asymmetrical standing balance pose that helps to develop body awareness, confidence and balance - both inner and outer.

All aspects of practice working together to create inner stillness, confidence and focus even with the outer challenges that holding this posture demands.

Whilst staying lighthearted and playful as you have fun being in (or out!) of the balanced shape 😊

Take 2 🎬

After a false start last week it's exciting to know that it's that time of year again... more sun, warmer days, and Saturday yoga down at South Beach 🏝

Our first Beach Yoga class for the season will be tomorrow, Saturday 11 October at 8am 🥳

A few things to know about classes at South Beach:

◇ All Saturday classes will be at South Beach over the warmer months unless the weather isn't that great

◇ If class is unable to go ahead at South Beach, we'll move class back to the studio

◇ Any changes to classes will be communicated via email and on our page. We'll also send you a text message if you've registered for class

◇ Class starts at 8am and goes for one hour and everyone is welcome - classes are beginner friendly! And please reach out if you're interested in attending with your kids

◇ Remember to BYO mat or towel to practice on. Water is also a good idea as well as something to cover your eyes for savasana

◇ You can book online at our website or simply come to class 15 minutes early to register - we have cash and card facilities at class

Please reach out if you've got any questions. Looking forward to seeing you at South Beach on Saturday 😊

In Ayurveda, sound - known as Nāda - is a powerful healing energy that helps bring balance to the body's doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.

When your body's energies are balanced, everything feels right: life flows as it should, the heaviness of winter fades and you feel fresh and renewed.

Our monthly Sound Bath + Yin class is the perfect way to experience this profound peace and relaxation, and this is your invitation to join us this weekend 💕

Here's what you can expect:

😌 Deep relaxation – As Lyndal’s crystal bowls and voice resonate, your nervous system shifts toward parasympathetic dominance, a proven pathway for lowering cortisol (the stress hormone).

🧘🏻‍♀️ Calm, meditative focus – The slow, sustained tones help quiet the constant movement of the mind, encouraging a tranquil mental state.

❤️‍🩹 Emotional balance – Immersive sound allows pent‑up emotions to surface and dissolve, supporting emotional regulation and a sense of wellbeing.

Regular exposure to resonant sound can improve mental clarity, reduce anxiety, and promote whole‑body healing - exactly what we need as the season blossoms 🌼

Join us on Sunday 12 October, 3pm to 4.30pm to rest, reset and renew 🥰

Visit our website to book your place.

Spaces are limited, so remember to book early. Newcomers are always welcome - no prior yoga experience required.

Open your heart - relative to backbend asana, it's meant to encourage a physical action of lifting and expanding your chest. We can't literally open our hearts! But how do you feel about it...

Backbending asana are among the most effective ways to expand and open the chest area - whether you're teacher tells you to open your heart or not 😁

Whether lying on your belly or on your back, backbends help to increase the flow of breath and prana (lifeforce energy) through the body. They also help to counteract all the iSlumping that happens from daily life and assist in improving posture and spinal health.

We practice back bends in most classes - in cat/cow or cobra as you flow through surya namaskar (sun salutation) or as a passive, supported bridge pose. This week you'll be focusing a little more on this invigorating and freeing group of postures with Ustrasana (camel pose).

A clear and calm mind through a focus on your breath is so important in practice, and especially moving into the more complex postures such as Ustrasana. Your breath helps you stay aware of and notice the sensations you feel physically and emotionally as you move. This can range from feelings of openness in the heart space to tightness in the lower back, or emotions of euphoria to overwhelm.

Remember to move mindfully, listen to your body and move to your safest expression of ustrasana - or any pose!

And if kneeling isn't for you? We've got options to create the same shape in a different way 😊

Ready to open up? Remember to book your place over at our website x

Have you ever found yourself wondering if you’re truly ready to step into the role of a Yoga teacher - or if you have what it takes to guide and inspire others?

It’s so common to feel this way.

When I signed up for my first Yoga teacher training, I had no intentions of being a teacher!

Yoga had been a constant in my life since I'd left high-school and I felt a strong desire to know more, but not knowing where to find this "more".

So I spent a month in Byron Bay doing my teacher training. It was an amazing, inspiring experience - a decision that truly changed the whole direction of my life.

The leap from student to teacher can bring up all kinds of doubts and I felt all of these! Am I good enough? Will I remember what to say? Can I really hold space for others?

We've been honoured to witness many beautiful souls move through these feelings too - and emerge on the other side with a newfound sense of confidence and purpose 🌟

What transforms self-doubt into empowerment? It’s not just knowledge, but lived experience - supported by a nurturing community and your experienced guides. That’s exactly what our 250 hour Yoga Teacher Training offers.

- Practice teaching in a safe, supportive environment, allowing you to find your authentic voice.

- Encouragement from experienced teachers who believe in you.

- Opportunities to teach real classes, so that by graduation, you’re not only ready - you’re excited to share.

- Connection with a caring community that celebrates every milestone.

If you’re feeling even a tiny spark of “maybe this is possible,” we invite you to nurture it. We’re here to support you every step - whether you wish to teach, or simply wish to grow.

Like you, we're lifelong students of Yoga. Last month we started a new Yoga course - learning about mantras and the Ta***ic worldview.

Beautiful, fascinating and revelatory. It's the kind of learning that helps keep seekers like you and us on the path. We're surrounded by so many bright, shiny things, endlessly trying to capture our attention (social media scroll hole anyone?!), that staying connected to our spiritual essence and teachings can be hard work.

We've all heard it before, but it's worth repeating - one of the key learnings so far has been how our mind creates our reality.

What we think becomes what we say > which becomes how we act > which creates our reality.

And it's not just some mystical mumbo jumbo - modern science is starting to catch up with what the ancient sages were saying too.

From the placebo effect to heart rate increases due to a belief of drinking caffeine, our minds are powerful!

Imagine how life would be if we directed the mind towards cultivating a kind and generous life and community?

Imagine cultivating patience, focus and kindness towards yourself and others?

We could all do with a little more love and kindness, and it's these qualities that you'll be fostering this week as we explore Natarajasana, also known as Dancer's Pose 👯‍♀️

As with all standing balance poses, Dancer's Pose requires a still mind and strong drishti (focus point) to shift weight from two feet to one. The magic of balance postures reveals how the body affects the mind and also how the mind affects the body.

A mind that is busy, thinking of all the things that have happened and might happen (ie not being in the present) can reflect in a wobbly, unstable balance posture. However the beauty of your practice - breathing, moving, being - creates a place of peace and stillness in the mind, which can then reflect in a stable, grounded posture 😊

And the kindness part? If you feel a little wobbly, or even fall out of your balance, it's important to practice self-love, making sure those inner words are filled with kindness and compassion for yourself ❤️
