What does the time you wake up say about you? Quite a lot, actually. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), our various organs reach their peak function at different times. And, each organ is responsible for processing different types of emotions.

1am-3am: Liver
The Liver organ system is at its peak and the associated emotion is frustration and anger. If you are holding in your feelings of frustration and anger, the Liver is affected. This then affects the healthy flow of Qi throughout your body.

3am-5am: Lung
The Lung organ system is at its peak and the associated emotion is grief. If you have experienced some kind of loss, you may find yourself waking up at this time to process grief.

5am-7am: Large Intestine
The Large Intestine organ system is at its peak and the associated emotion is “letting go”. This is why many people move their bowels early in the morning.

Many women and couples choose acupuncture and Chinese herbs as an adjunct therapy while undergoing fertility treatments. Research shows that acupuncture is effective for increasing clinical pregnancy rates (also known as live births), ongoing pregnancy rate (pregnancy beyond 12 weeks) and live birth rates. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has existed for thousands of years, with a long history of supporting gynaecological health and fertility. To coffee or not to coffee? Coffee is an interesting herb, when considered from the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) perspective. It has many properties – it’s warm, drying, bitter and acrid. It promotes the movement of Yang Qi in the body, and this is what makes us feel energised. BUT, it can deplete our Kidney Essence and Spleen Qi over time. The effect of coffee on a person is up to their induvial constitution. You can minimise any negative effects by drinking coffee on a full stomach, having no more than one to two per day and eating a Qi and Blood-building diet.
