‘Take a Day Out’ of your busy schedule for a day of learning, fun, creativity and socialising with old and new friends. Two fantastic facilitators – Annette Burmeister (Therapeutic Horticulturalist and Educator) and Jo Mildenhall (Printmaker), will lead you through a series of interactive sessions to explore the therapeutic and creative power of gardens and nature. We hope you can join us for the third of our ‘Take A Day Out’ Wellness Retreats for 2024 – Let’s Go Potty With Plants and Prints!

9.30am Registration and Refreshments

10.00 Welcome, Introductions and Setting the Scene Activity

10.30 Session 1: Create a Healing Potted Garden For Joy, Mindfulness and Wellbeing
At the beginning of this session Annette will explore the following topics:
• What do we mean by ‘Therapeutic Horticulture’?
• Therapeutic Horticulture as a growing Australian Industry.
• How can Therapeutic Horticulture improve our health
and wellbeing?
You will then start creating your own takeaway ‘healing potted garden’ containing edible flowers and herbs while at the same time learning about:
• the horticultural skills involved with potting up plants
• the medicinal qualities of plants
• companion planting; and
• planting to attract beneficial insects

12.45 Lunch

1.15 Session 2: Creating Prints From Nature
Did you know that you can use nature to create simple, yet stunning prints that capture the intricate beauty of plants and other natural objects? In this session you will explore the basics of nature printing - experimenting, observing, and creating beautiful prints right from nature. There are no rules—just the freedom to ‘go potty’ and print with wild abandon using a variety of techniques that Jo will share with you. At the end of this session you will have created
your own artwork, or handmade card to adorn a wall, or give as a gift to someone special.

Have you ever promised yourself that one day you would start recording your life story as a way to capture all the events, people and experiences that collectively have contributed to the 'collage' which is your life's legacy to date?

Well think no longer! It's time to fullfil that promise by taking the first step to write your autobiography by attending the second of our Centre's Take a Day Out Wellness Retreat, aptly titled, 'Your Life as a Collage'.

At this Retreat, two fantastic facilitators – Eva Tepper and Jo Mildenhall, will lead you through a series of interactive sessions to give written and visual expression to your unique legacy story (to date). It promises to be a day of great fun, learning, creativity and socialising with old friends and new.

DON'T MISS OUT ON GETTING YOUR TICKET for the first of our ‘Take A Day Out’ Wellness Retreats for 2024 – Let’s Get Herby, Healthy and Handy! Join three fantastic facilitators - Sue Lohmeyer (Herbalist), Jennifer Walsh (Chef) and Gus Clutterbuck (Ceramicist) in a day of learning, fun, creativity and socialising with old and new friends.

Three key sessions will make up this one day Wellness Retreat:
Session 1: Introduction to Herbalism and the Magic of Herbs
In this session, Sue will take you on a journey into the wonderful world of herbalism. You will learn about: the history of herbal medicine; key uses of herbs for health and wellbeing; and the special magic of a selection of ‘hero herbs’.
Session 2: Food as Medicine
In this hands-on session you will work with Jennifer to prepare a range of tasty, nutritious and healthy dishes featuring herbs as ‘hero ingredients’. You will then get to eat the ‘fruits of your easy labour’ over a shared table lunch.
Session 3: Get Herby and Handy with Clay
In this hands-on session you will be guided by Gus in the process of sculpting and ‘herb tatooing’ your very own hand in clay. You will also have the opportunity to make some clay herb tiles and garden stakes.

The Cancer Care Centre is pleased to be able to offer Hatha, Yin and Restorative Yoga every Thursday from 11.30am - 12.30pm commencing on March 7, 2024 with a FREE Come 'n Try Day. All members of the general public are invited to participate.

Join experienced and passionate yoga teacher, Lauren Green
to take a break from your busy schedule and immerse yourself in the peaceful and rejuvenating practice of Hatha, Yin and Restorative Yoga.

Whether you're a beginner or experienced yogi, this class welcomes all levels. Come along to discover the transformative power of yoga as you release tension, build strength, increase flexibility and cultivate mindfulness in a supportive and inclusive setting.

Please note that sessions are conducted in a very gentle manner but exercises are not designed to be conducted using chairs.

Cost $15 per individual session (pay with CASH ONLY on the day).
