This National NAIDOC Week, we honour the enduring strength, vision, and legacy of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The 2025 theme, “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy,” celebrates the resilience and cultural pride of young First Nations leaders, whose guidance is rooted in thousands of years of knowledge and tradition.

At Cootharinga, we proudly walk alongside First Nations communities and are deeply committed to reconciliation. Through our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), we continue to listen, learn, and create respectful, culturally safe spaces for all. 💛❤️🖤

This week, our Mount Isa crew soaked up the sunshine with a well-deserved outing by the lake and what better way to bring people together than a classic BBQ? 🌞

With laughter in the air, sausages sizzling on the hotplate, and stunning views of the lake all around us, it was the perfect afternoon to connect, unwind and simply enjoy each other's company. Whether it was sharing stories, flipping snags, or just soaking in the scenery, there was no shortage of good vibes and great smiles. 😊

These moments remind us just how important community and connection are to what we do at Cootharinga. Every outing is a chance to build friendships, create memories, and celebrate the strengths of every individual in our amazing community.

📸 Check out a few snaps of our day out - guaranteed to make you smile just as much as we did!

Cootharinga’s Townsville Day Service was lucky enough to visit a QFES Fire Station recently. 🚒

Zachary, Reece, Otto, Rebecca and Joel all got to see the trucks, wear the uniform, and watch the firefighters spring into action when a real call was received. 🚨🔥

This week is NAIDOC Week, where we celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The theme this year is Keep the fire burning! Blak, Loud and Proud. The fire represents the enduring strength and vitality of Indigenous cultures, passed down through generations despite the challenges faced. It is a symbol of connection to the land, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Through our collective efforts, we can forge a future where the stories, traditions, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities are cherished and celebrated, enriching the fabric of the nation with the oldest living culture in the world.
