👀 Have you spotted any new faces in our posts lately?

If you look closely, you might notice a few… because we’ve already welcomed FIVE incredible new graduate speech pathologists who will be starting with us in 2026. 💜

That does mean our Graduate & Grow positions for 2026 are now filled.

We’re honestly blown away by the response this year. Applications came flooding in, not only from Newcastle but far beyond, and it’s been such a privilege to hand-pick grads who are not only talented but so beautifully aligned with our values.

Why the buzz? Over the years, our Graduate and Grow Program has developed a reputation as a high-quality, nurturing launchpad into speech pathology careers. That reputation is thanks to our team, who pour their hearts into supporting, teaching, and championing new grads as they take their first steps. 🌱

And for those still figuring out their next step, we’ve created a resource that might help. It's called Ready, Set, Grow! and is a practical guide to help you prepare for your career with confidence. This one can be accessed via the link below...

Starting this week, Lauren is 'back on the tools' and opening a small number of clinical appointments for:

🍼 Children experiencing feeding difficulties
🔍 Second opinions or deeper assessments for significant speech sound disorders (such as CAS)
🗣️ Early communication support - especially for children under three who aren’t yet speaking (her special area of interest!)

She’ll also be offering intensive therapy blocks across September and October for families wanting to make focused progress.

Spaces are limited, so if this sounds like it could benefit your child, drop us a DM today. 💜

“It looks like just play, but there’s a purpose behind it...”

In this snippet from our latest podcast episode, Speech Pathologist Marlowe Patch shares how games and play-based activities aren’t just fun, they’re a powerful way to help children work toward their speech therapy goals.

By tuning into each child’s interests and creating space for connection, Marlowe explains how play becomes the bridge between learning and real-life communication.

For those who’ve followed us for a while, you’ll know we love to celebrate milestones and special days (often with cake or sweet treats!). And moments of reflection and connection are just as important to us.

During Speech Pathology Week, some of our team took time to reflect on why we love what we do and who we do it with - creating a heart-shaped post-it-note artwork carrying messages like:

✨ "Helping kids and families achieve goals"
✨ "Parent and client empowerment"
✨ "Building strong connections with families"
✨ "Seeing children build their confidence"

As we ask R U OK? today, we’re reminded of how valuable these moments of reflection are. Taking time to connect with our purpose and with each other helps us show up better for the children and families we support - and for our team too.

Because asking “R U OK?” starts with creating a culture of care, reflection, and genuine connection. 💜

With spring in the air and Term 3 nearly wrapped up (can you believe it?!), now’s the perfect time to pause, reflect, and set your sights on what’s next.

Whether this term has been about steady progress, sudden leaps, or a few tricky patches, planning helps keep therapy purposeful, flexible, and aligned with your child’s evolving needs.

Here are some things to consider as we head into the home stretch of 2025:

🌟 Reflect on progress and book a review session to update your speech pathology plan.
📅 Prep for the school holidays with strategies or group programs.
🎯 Set fresh goals for Term 4 to finish strong.
🌞 Look ahead to summer and 2026, especially if school transitions are coming up.
🎉 Celebrate the wins - big or small - every step counts.
🗣️ Keep the conversation going with your Speech Pathologist.

This is your child’s time to shine and step into the ‘ber’ months with confidence and achievement. 💜

👉 Chat with your Speech Pathologist to plan your next steps.

🙌 A big High 5 to Albie!

He produced all of his speech sounds with 100% accuracy - not just in single words, but in conversation too. 🎉

Albie has been putting in regular home practice, and his hard work is really paying off. As you can see in the photos, he was absolutely stoked with his achievement, and so are we! 💜✨

🎙️ Our Founder and Director, Lauren Haskins, was invited by Speech Pathology Australia to be part of a podcast conversation on 'Allyship in Action', alongside Cyndal Nelson (they/them), Q***r Speech Collective, and Nathan Cornish-Raley (he/him), Professional Support Advisor at SPA. This episode was (appropriately) recorded on Day, and, as always, Lauren was rocking her purple shirt in celebration 🤩

Conversations about allyship and inclusive care matter deeply to us at A Growing Understanding. We’re proud to be recognised as a Gold Tier Service Provider, which acknowledges our commitment to creating safe, respectful, and welcoming services for all families, including members of the LGBTQ+ community. 🌈

For us, it’s not just about providing therapy. It’s about offering speech pathology services and spaces where children, families, and communities feel seen, celebrated, and supported to grow in their own way.

Being invited to share our story on a national platform is a reflection of the work our whole team does every day: embedding inclusive care, learning alongside families, and standing by our values. 💜
