We have put together a 3D video of changes to the VAN to allow for its use as a wound clinic. Main concerns are for patient safety, reducing contamination risks, accessibility and, of course, function. Feel free to give feedback and ideas on how to improve the layout, function or what I have missed.

We picked up the proposed mobile clinic! And now we need to start fitting it out. This van was lovingly created by Gareth, who we can’t thank enough for selling it to us. But now it’s being re-purposed! With 2 sinks and a big open space in the back, we’re half-way to having a clinic already! Here are some photos of the new van at home. Watch this space!

I’ve never really stopped fiddling around with IT. I’ve programmed in many languages over the years and companies are just making it easier and easier to get programs and apps out to the world. So, you guessed it, I’ve been working on some apps. One is currently in testing with a private hospital in Toowoomba, the second is a re-boot of an App that we published in 2015, and there are more in the pipeline.

One currently in development is a dressing selection App for Android and iOS. It basically uses the TIME model and a wound dressing formulary (based on some NHS ones as well as manufacturer information) to provide you with a selection of dressings that would suit your wound. I’m currently waiting on a few companies to get back to me with some data before releasing but they have not been quick to reply (months) and I would like to get this out sooner rather than later. You can see how it works here… This particular app will be free to download and use with no ads.

If you are a company (or know someone with a company) in Australia that sells a BROAD range of wound care products, and you have a website where people can go to buy them, let me know. I’m in need of a database of products to finish this project off. What will it cost you? Just a copy of your data for the app, each year (or once every 6 months depending on price changes but it will be your call on that one). Anyway, get in touch via email or message if you think this app would work well with your company.

Coming up later in the year we will be starting a You Tube series called "Puzzling out Chronic Wounds". Each episode will dive into one part of the puzzle and explore how it relates to wound healing and wound management plans. The first (dodgy) test video has been uploaded to You Tube just so I can get an idea of how to work it and what I need to improve for the real thing :) If you have any specific topics you would like covered, let me know!

This is a dodgy video to work out lighting, sound and other effects. I anticipate that the actual education videos will start being uploaded from June 2022.L...

My name is Kim Kaim and I’m a Nurse Practitioner for Chronic and Hard to Heal Wounds. I have held other careers in science and information technology but I switched to Nursing in 2007. Since 2013 I have been working solely in wound care at an advanced practice level. I completed my Master of Wound Care from Monash in 2015 and my Master of Nurse Practitioner from QUT in 2021. I have been a member of Wounds Australia since 2009 (long before it was Wounds Australia) and even chaired the state committee and ran a successful national conference in 2015. I have a passion for wounds and for getting wound care knowledge out to the broader community.
