August’s Game of the Month: Marble Run 🌀

Marble Run is an exciting construction game that sparks creativity, problem solving, and resilience as kids design and test their very own marble tracks.

This activity can support the following:

🧠 Executive Functioning – Kids plan, organise, and adapt as they figure out how to connect pieces and adjust designs so the marbles run smoothly.

🏗️ Visual-Spatial Skills – Building pathways strengthens spatial awareness, cause-and-effect thinking, and sequencing skills.

✋🏻 Fine & Gross Motor Skills – Snapping pieces together and adjusting tracks helps develop dexterity, hand strength, and coordination.

😌 Self-Regulation – Kids learn persistence, patience, and problem-solving while testing and improving their designs.

👫 Social & Emotional Skills – Working together to create a track encourages teamwork, communication, and celebrating success.

Play is the foundation of learning!

Speech Pathology Week 💬💛

This week we celebrate the incredible work speech pathologists do to support our little people. We feel so grateful to collaborate with such amazing providers in our community!

A special shoutout to Cindy Calvert-Leighton Speech Pathology, who works within our Ignite Hub as a sole trader. Her knowledge, insight, and passion make such a difference for her clients and our team, we’re so lucky to have her as part of our wider Ignite network! 🌟

This year’s theme reminds us of the powerful role communication plays in every part of life and the lasting impact it can have 💕

Book week: Complete ✅

Last week had us trading uniforms for crayons, inspired by “The Day the Crayons Quit”. We brought a splash of colour to the clinic and had the best time celebrating stories together! 🌈

We loved seeing everyone’s dress-ups and favourite books throughout the week, thanks for joining in the fun! 📚

Toileting: How can we support? 🚽✨

A few weeks ago, our team had the pleasure of learning from the amazing Debbie Atkins, an Occupational Therapist with extensive experience helping children and families build toileting independence.

Toileting is such an important daily life skill, and as OTs and DEs, we can support children and families through strategies, recommendations, and capacity building within the toileting space.

What can this support look like?
✔️ Toilet readiness checklists
✔️ Exploring sensory preferences
✔️ Looking at diet & water intake for stool/bladder health
✔️ Adapting environments for independence
✔️ Building skills for wiping, sequencing steps, understanding body signals and “calming the body to release”
✔️ Helping children understand where stool/urine goes
… and so much more!

If you would like further support with toileting, reach out to your OT or DE to see where you can begin!

💡 Fun fact: Water intake plays a big role in recognising bladder signals. Early bladder signals only happen once the bladder is already full, so if children aren’t drinking enough water, they might miss the cues telling them it’s time to go! Water guidelines for children aged between 4-8 is 1.2L a day💧

Next week is Book Week! ✨📚

At Ignite, we’ll be dressing up as characters from a much loved children’s book… can you guess which one? 👀

We’d love to see your best costumes in clinic next week (as long as you can still move and play!). You could even bring your favourite book to share in session.

We can’t wait to see you next week! 💛

Welcome back Georgia! 🩵

We’re so excited to have Georgia return to the team as an Allied Health Assistant! You may remember her from earlier this year when she completed her Developmental Education placement with us. Georgia is currently in her final year of her Bachelor of Disability and Developmental Education and is excited to grow in her role as an AHA before transitioning over to a DE.

We are excited to continue supporting her journey! 🌟

July’s Game of the Month: Buildzi 🧱

Buildzi is a fast-paced stacking game that supports imagination, resilience, focus, and fine motor precision through hands-on construction play.

This activity can support the following:

🧠 Executive Functioning – Buildzi challenges kids to plan, adapt, and problem solve as they build structures under time pressure or follow design cards, strengthening working memory and cognitive flexibility.

🏗️ Visual-Spatial Skills – Arranging and stacking blocks in specific configurations develops spatial awareness, visual-motor integration, and pattern recognition.

✋🏻 Fine Motor Skills – Picking up, rotating, and balancing pieces works on dexterity, grip strength, hand-eye coordination, and bilateral coordination.

😌 Self-Regulation & Focus – The combination of structured goals and playful competition can help kids practice managing frustration, maintaining attention, and calming their bodies through intentional movement.

👫 Social & Emotional Skills – Playing together encourages turn taking, collaboration, communication, and good sportsmanship. It also builds confidence with every successful tower!

Welcome back Chelsea! 🩷

We’re so excited to have Chelsea return to the team as an Allied Health Assistant! You might remember her from earlier this year when she completed her OT student placement with us. Chelsea has developed a strong interest in paediatrics during her time here, which inspired her to stay on in this new role while she prepares for her final placement.

We can’t wait to continue supporting her journey toward becoming a qualified occupational therapist! 🌟
