✨ Before Asana, We Cleanse ✨ Before moving into postures, we begin with Apana Kriyas — gentle movements to cleanse and awaken the physical and energetic bodies (such as nadis, energy channels). These practices help release toxins and metabolic waste, ease stiffness and inflammation in the joints, and bring clarity to the mind.
☹️Pain, aches, and brain fog can often arise from cancer treatments, hormone blocker medication, or menopause, as declining estrogen affects joint lubrication, causing dryness and stiffness and loss of concentration.
🙏In yogic understanding, Apana is all that needs to be expelled from the body — through the breath, urine, and other forms of elimination — while Kriya means action or movement. Apana balances Prana, our vital life force that comes with the inhale, sunlight, and nourishing fresh foods.
In my classes, we gently circle, stretch, and flex every joint — toes, heels, knees, hips, fingers, wrists, elbows, shoulders, neck, spine — and finish with Kapalabhati Kriya, a cleansing breath to release stagnation and invite fresh energy. 🌿
After warming the joints and releasing stiffness and tension, we move into asana — postures that strengthen, open, and bring mobility and balance to the body, guided by a calm and focused mind. Noticing the bhav — how does it feel, what is the state of our being? 🕊️
Not all yoga is the same!
