The correct use of anti-inflammatory medication is essential in recovery from injuries

Anti-inflammatory medications and cortisone injections can be helpful, but they are really only "mopping up the spill" and not necessarily addressing the issues that caused the problem. Best to get to the source of the issue and "plug the leak" 👍

Do you ever get a sharp of burning pain in the ball of your foot? You could be living with a Neuroma!

A Neuroma is typically described as a compression of the nerve between the 3rd and 4th metatarsals. Often the Neuroma occurs secondary to an unstable forefoot, where there is typically a lot of movement between the 3rd and 4th Metatarsals. 🦶

Tight, constrictive shoes can increase the compressive forces on the nerves. The pain is usually ill defined pain localised or the forefoot. It may cause a radiating pain into the toes. Weightbearing, particularly in tight occlusive footwear or intense forefoot running may exacerbate the painful symptoms The pain may be described as “shooting” and sometimes “burning”. Pins and needles or sharp pain maybe experienced when the forefoot is squeezed together, and pressure is applied on the foot. If treated appropriately there not be any long term effects of the Mortons Neuromas. If conservative management fails to relieve the pain, then surgery may be indicated.

As we head into the colder months and start to wear closed in shoes more often, the risk of developing an ingrown toe nail greatly increases.

There are a few important steps to preventing this from occurring!

1. Trim long nails straight and clean

2. Keep feet clean washing them daily

3. Avoid narrow and tight fitting shoes.

If you do find your self with a pesky ingrown toenail please give us a call 5209 2759 or book online thttp://totalsportspodiatry.com.au/book-online/ to have one of our expert Podiatrist clear this up for you.

We are here to keep you mobile and active in these challenging times.

As podiatrist's we treat all sorts of foot complaints and lower leg pain and we remain an essential service in these very confusing times. We are here to help and we are taking extra precautions to ensure our clinics are safe places to visit, we continue to take appointments for new and existing patients. It is important that GP clinics and Emergency Departments aren't filled with foot pain, ingrown toenails and other conditions our skilled podiatrist's can deal with.

We have scaled back our clinic hours and modified the waiting rooms to comply with social distancing but feel free to book online.

Following the Prime Minister's announcement last night, we can confirm that Allied Health professionals, including podiatrists, are still able to practice in clinics. Please keep in mind that the 4 square metre social distancing rule continues to apply in waiting rooms and other non-practicing spaces on the premises.

The APodA is continuing to develop resources to support podiatrists through this time and encourage members to get in touch via phone (03 9416 3111) or email (info@podiatry.org.au) if you have any questions.

AHPA has just received the following advice from Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt that in light of some states shutting down ‘non-essential services’, ALL allied health businesses nationally can continue working and are encouraged to do so.

The Minister has also indicated that the Department of Health is now developing full allied health telehealth options, along with other health and medical services, within the week. This will be part of a staged plan and he encourages providers to continue vital face-to-face services where possible. AHPA is currently liaising with the Department of Health regarding this development and will be meeting with the Department shortly to discuss details for allied health items.

23/03/2020

Hi all,

We are remaining open for those who require podiatry in this trying time.
The recently announced government shutdown applies to non-essential services.

Healthcare including podiatry is considered an essential service.
We will continue to take advice from the State & Federal Government and Australian Podiatry Association.
We have undertaken additional safety and infection control measures to protect members of our community and ensure our clinics are safe places to visit and work.
We ask that if you are unwell or experiencing cold/flu symptoms please contact us to reschedule your appointment.
