Since we put that document about Play Therapy and the NDIS under your Christmas tree on the 22nd December until today we (Dr Kate Renshaw and Playroom Therapy's Natalie Scira; and literature reviewers Laura Rosenberg and Meg Ellard) have been working towards submitting a 'Play Therapy Evidence Summary' (Renshaw & Scira, 2025) into the NDIS Independent review, and the NDIS Evidence Advisory Committee.

This document can also be shared with Federal MPs, NDIS stakeholders, and importantly provided to those who ask Play Therapists to demonstrate the empirical support that Play Therapy is effective!

The document includes a summary of the last 25 years of Level 1 Play Therapy Evidence (n=12 meta-analyses and Systematic Reviews; including 4 disability specific studies) and the last 25 years of Levels 2-5 Play Therapy Disability Evidence (n=34)

Let’s be clear: trained art therapists are highly skilled professionals with Masters-level qualifications. They are not “shonky providers” but compassionate clinicians who make a profound difference in people’s lives every day.

While we respect the need for reform within the NDIS, it’s crucial not to dismiss or undervalue therapies that have transformed countless lives. Let’s continue to celebrate and support the incredible work of these therapists, who are essential in helping individuals thrive.
