Its taken some time, but its fantastic to see local and federal governments starting to step up, and take notice of mens health.
We had a couple of special guests come down to see our facilities this week.
it was amazing to chat to Dan Repacholi MP who is an Australian politician serving as the first Special Envoy for Men’s Health, focused on raising awareness about health for boys and men, and Libby Coker MP who is Federal MP for Corangamite area and also Chair of Joint Standing Committee on the National Disability Insurance Scheme, as they do a tour around Geelong to see what is needed.
It really warms the heart, to see people like yourselves, take time out of your very busy schedule to come take to us at a grass roots level.
We have 100s for government funded woman's programs, events, and organisations, while the majority of our mens services, are self funded by the people that lead them, like us.
Intervention is the cure, but we lack the support to give this issue all the love it needs, seven men a day taking their own lives, is too many, especially when we have the knowledge to prevent it
We know what brings connection, meaning and purpose, and we can do it through funded exercise programs, that also promotes Counselling and Mental Health.
I costs $155k dollars to keep one man in prison, for less than half that price, we can run a program that keeps multiple men out of prison, abusive relationships and the grave.
These programs would save the government money in the long run.
This is exciting, and brings hope that things are going in the right direction, we look forward to keeping these discussions open and collaborating in the future.
