Children need many moments of feeling seen and valued, it’s the cornerstone of connection.

Creating emotional connections when children are calm and regulated feels good. These moments accumulate…they bank up!

When children become overwhelmed and are having a hard time, this accumulated felt sense of connection helps them to be more responsive to our support.

Social information can be absolutely anything that is happening in the environment.

Adults can use this information in a developmentally helpful and purposeful way to help children to become more socially attentive and notice the world of others.

It doesn't need to be tricky, keep it simple!

The Netflix series "Adolescence" has been the center of intense discussion over the last few weeks. If you're wondering whether social and emotional development has anything to do with the issues highlighted in the series, the answer is a resounding YESSSSSSS.

We’ve been sitting quietly on this for a while, perhaps waiting to come across something that could help us express our thoughts, and we finally
💕found it 💕.

is a podcast that explores strategies to support children, using iconic movies from the 80’s and 90’s. In their latest episode (ep 105 “Beautiful Boys”) co - hosts and Nick respond to questions from listeners and read reflections on the latest topic. The final reflection of the episode left a lasting impact, and it really sums up everything we have to say about the way we parent and care for our boys. This long, but beautifully written letter describes the antidote to the development of toxic masculinity, and it asks us to hold hope for the impact that fathers and male caregivers can have on our beautiful boys.

It’s everything that comes with social and emotional development…not just what we say, but how we say it. Not just what we do - but how we do it, and how our children FEEL. Tell our beautiful boys we love them...for sure. Even better, show them. Keep up the cuddles, show them the strength that lies in being authentic to who they are. Challenge the idea that being loud is being confident, being aggressive is being strong, and that people fearing you equals respect.

It’s a long listen, but we encourage you to see it through, because it's pure gold. Couldn’t have said it better ourselves. Thanks Pop Culture Parenting for the heartfelt share, we see you too ❤️.

Tracey and Seona.

Such incredible ideas, perceptions, storytelling and compassion from Gabor Maté last Wednesday night at the Melbourne Convention Centre.

Gabor seems able to effortlessly weave together decades of experience and wisdom to highlight the ways in which modern medicine continues to underestimate the connections between our emotional and physical health and wellbeing.

His perspectives on attachment relationships and the role of attunement in parenting is particularly close to our hearts and we loved sharing the experience with 5000 others who seemed to agree! His latest Book “The Myth of Normal” is an inspiring read for the whole family!

Let’s lean into learning new or alternative ways to respond to children that better align with our values & intentions.

Learning about our relational capacity helps us to set children on the path to success!

Did you know that the way we relate and respond to children has a significant impact in shaping the way they feel about themselves and the world around them?

Early Childhood colleagues, it’s time to consider your team’s learning goals for the next 2 years! We appreciate timelines are tight, so we are providing a series of online sessions to help you out.

These sessions are designed to highlight the benefits and outcomes you can achieve by integrating The SELF programs into your SRF plans over the next two years. Given the limited timeframe, we see this as an excellent opportunity to share valuable and relevant information with the people who are responsible for your plans.

These online information sessions will run for 30 minutes and will provide an opportunity to ask questions. We will present a quick overview of our relational pedagogy, including The SELF Learning Framework, Marte Meo, and the role of video reflection in professional learning. Additionally, we will discuss how we collaborate with services across a range of time frames, the outcomes we strive for, and the various options available to meet different service goals and budgets.

UPCOMING SRF INFORMATION SESSIONS:
December
Monday 16th 2.30pm & 4 pm
Tuesday 17th 9.30am & 12 pm
Wednesday 18th 10am & 11am

Wishing all Very Important Adult’s in children’s lives a very special World Kindness Day.

The mission for 2024’s World Kindness Day is that ‘no act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted’

Kindness has ripple effects far wider than we may notice in the moment.

Let’s lead by example and demonstrate acts of kindness for our children and the generations to come.
