Spoiler……

They are all myths and not true.

- Teenage acne is common, this is because we have a surge in androgens in our teenage years which can exacerbate acne and outbreaks.
However, acne can come on at any age for many different reasons.

- The pill will not fix your acne long term. The pill is often recommended by your doctor to reduce or stop acne breakouts. The pill also stops hormone production. Females produce natural hormones oestrogen and progesterone that are essential for bone health, cardiovascular health, to support mood and are required for healthy skin. When you stop the pill your acne may get worse.

- Everyone produces oil / sebum that protects the skin. This sebum should be a watery like consistency that flows easily onto the skin. It’s when this oil changes consistency that it becomes a problem in acne. It’s not the amount of sebum but the quality of the sebum we must address in acne.

The pill does not balance your hormones, it shuts off the communication between your brain and ovaries and you no longer produce natural hormones.

Yes, this can reduce acne but when you stop taking the pill your acne or any other underlying hormonal issues will likely return.

If you are already on the pill and your acne is still a problem then you may have some deeper issues with gut and stress.

Some pills and contraceptives can also make acne worse.

I aim to get to the root cause of your acne.

The stress we encounter daily has a massive impact on our skin.

Short bursts of stress are okay but long term stress we experience from work, relationships, doom scrolling, anxiety, poor diet, environment and lack of sleep all play a big role in our health.

Your goal should be to reduce stress as much as possible and add things into your life that you enjoy OR remove things that do not bring you joy. I understand removing some stressful things may seem impossible to remove or can take a long time.

What you can do to reduce stress:

- Go to bed before 10:30
- Do not use your phone in bed
- Do not look at your phone for at least 30 minutes after waking up
- Let your eyes see sunlight before your phone
- Eat a nutrient dense diet with lots of protein and fibre
- Start doing something everyday that makes you happy - painting, reading, walking, playing sport, pottery, bath, listening or playing music, yoga, Pilates.

Here is my rosacea before the .skin face mask, after I have removed the mask and in the morning.

I don’t have any ties to this product, I just love it and it works.

I suffer rosacea and it gets very red, dry, itchy, raised and hot. It’s difficult to figure out what flares it but common triggers are:

- inflammatory diet
- constant temperature changes (heated home/office and cold outside temperatures)
- certain topical preparations
- alcohol
- stress
- changes in gut microbiome 🦠

I use the ‘biome mask’ at night, after I have cleansed my face. Leave it on for 20/30 minutes. Take off mask run excess into skin and then go to bed.

My skin in hydrated and much less red in the morning and this lasts a while.

I try to do a mask every two weeks
