Gateways’ response to claims about autism and paracetamol (Tylenol)
At Gateways Support Services, we’ve proudly supported children, young people and adults with autism and their families for over 40 years.
Recently, claims have circulated suggesting a link between autism and paracetamol (Tylenol) use. We understand this may cause concern for families. As experts in autism, we want to reassure our community: there is no credible scientific evidence linking paracetamol to autism. Autism is a complex neurodevelopmental difference influenced by multiple factors.
Dr Bernie Jenner OAM, founder of Gateways, reminds us: “Autism is part of the broad neurodiversity of the human persona to be celebrated, not a disease with a simplistic ‘cause’ to be ‘cured’.”
At Gateways, we remain committed to standing with people with autism and their families, fostering belonging, learning, and participation. Families with questions or concerns are encouraged to speak with their healthcare provider and seek trusted, evidence-based information.
