After presenting my webinar yesterday (on a Saturday) , I stumbled across this gorgeous note in the clinic. I have no idea who wrote it or when (I’m assuming a parent) - whoever you are, you made my day. This little random act of kindness gives me an energy boost to keep going in these busy last weeks of the year. Thankyou x.

TRAVEL TRAINING:
I have been working with a teen client with a goal of catching a train to Melbourne. We are taking small steps towards this goal due to her high levels of anxiety Session one involved walking to the train station to check out the environment, exposure to the sensory aspects of noise and people, reading timetables and learning about the myki card. Our next session involved catching a train from Geelong station to South Geelong and back. I was super proud of my client in getting to the station and being ready for the challenge today. Unfortunately there were major train delays due to a medical emergency on the train we were waiting for, so was a great way of us having to problem solve what to do in the moment.

SCHOOL CAMP:
It seems to be the season for school camps. I have just farewelled one of my kids off to camp today. It can be such a challenging time for kids and families with lots of emotions. Being away from home can be can be tricky., and for neurodivergent kids it can be hard managing 24 hours a day of sensory input with little time for downtime compared with being home. 🏕️ Preparing your kids for camp and educating teachers and support staff regarding their needs and how to best support your child’s regulation can make a huge difference to the success of the camp. With my clients, we do lots of pre-planning before camp occurs to help the process. I have put together some tips and things to consider for your child heading off to school camp. If you would like some support or more information, please comment below with ‘HAPPY CAMPERS’ and I can send you some more info.

Welcome to term 4! I had a special 4 legged visitor to the clinic today - meet ‘Lucky’ the Guinea pig. My client loves animals and they help keep her regulated, so she asked if Lucky could come and visit. Lucky was a delight, well behaved and worked a treat for my client.
I hope that the transition back to school went well for your family. Along with the daylight savings adjustment- always fun when it lands with the back to school!!

October is ADHD Awareness month. The theme for 2025 is ‘The Many Faces of ADHD’. I have the privilege of supporting many kids with ADHD and their families. Educating those new to their diagnosis, helping develop regulation skills, understanding sensory needs, developing executive functioning skills and educating their educators are all part of the OT role.
