CELEBRATING OUR CENTENARIANS - Doris Thelma Henderson

Today we recognise the birthday of one of our centenarians - Doris Henderson (nee Hillberg), born on the 30th of June, 1912 at Essendon, Victoria. Doris was the daughter of Axel and Martha Hillberg.

In 1936 records show Doris Hillberg was a teacher, living at Newbridge near Dunolly. Then in 1938 she married William Ian Henderson from Camperdown. William joined the Air Force for three years in 1943.

As William worked as an ANZ Bank Manager, he and Doris relocated quite a bit. Between 1949 to 1968 we understand they lived at Traralgon, Cohuna, Wedderburn, Rutherglen and Camperdown.

William died on the 14th August 1984 at Torquay aged 68 years and is also buried at Bellbrae. Doris lived nearly another 30 years and died on the 30th of October 2013 aged 101. Their final resting place is Ex Service #59.

The Trust values our community history and we would love to hear from William and Doris’s family to update our records.
