“Knots” aren’t actually knots.
A lot of people describe tight, tender areas in muscles as “knots” — but they’re usually not muscles twisted into literal knots.
That tight, tender spot you feel is often a small area of muscle fibres remaining partially contracted or tightened, commonly referred to as a trigger point.
These areas can become sensitive, tight, achy, and may even refer pain elsewhere in the body.
They can develop from:
• repetitive movement
• stress and nervous system tension
• posture and compensation patterns
• overload or injury
• not enough recovery
That’s why the same spots can keep returning.
Your body is often adapting and protecting — not failing.
Remedial massage isn’t just about treating the sore spot itself, but understanding why your body may be holding tension there in the first place.
