Hi, I’m Rachel from Healing Penn Creative somatic modalities.
Healing Penn has been professionally, creatively and somatically specializing in trauma, anxiety, addiction recovery and personal development since 2013.
I found myself being drawn to this field of work after being inspired by many of my own “unconventional” creative and innovative therapists I have worked with over time, on what was once my own seemingly impossible journey of wellness, pattern breaking, resilience forming and boundary building .
Once upon a time I experienced extreme anxiety, OCD, agoraphobia and bouts of depression I thought that’s just who I had become, a person who now had to live with and manage these symptoms.
I completely understand what it feels like to know what you “should” or “could” be doing compared with what you are actually physically and mentally capable of at the time...Oh the overwhelm...
Thanks to my own journey with art therapy, Somatic experiencing and other creative modalities I was able to help heal these ares of my own life many years ago. I was able to unravel then empower myself to go on to live a life of assisting others heal, explore and embrace themselves and their own personal journey.
Healing Penn creatively, mindfully and somatically works to complete patterns, break cycles, make meaning, build personal resources and move mind sets while integrating, ones personal mythology and symbolism from an embodied trauma informed perspective.
Healing Penn embraces spiritual development, curiosity, creative expression and physical embodiment in a space held for safe reflection via Mindfulness, Somatic Experiencing, Touch therapy, Shadow work, Art Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy as well as various other creative modalities.
Healing Penn has been creatively and somatically specializing in trauma, anxiety, addiction and personal development since 2013.
What is Somatic Experiencing? Somatic Experiencing is a pioneering body awareness approach to healing trauma. It focuses on experiencing the ‘felt sense’ in the present moment to relieve the physical, emotional and physiological effects of post traumatic stress disorder and other stress and trauma-related health problems.
It can involve movement, sensation tracking, touch and embodiment.
What is art therapy?
First of all you do not have to feel like you are a creative person to reap the rewards of art therapy.....stick figure drawings are fine!
Art therapy can be used for individual growth, insight, empowerment, families, corporate, groups and so much more.
Art therapy uses creative modalities, including drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, dream work, photography, play, drama, & dance/movement within a therapeutic relationship to aid in listening to & connecting with physical, mental and emotional well being.
Art is a therapeutic tool where therapist & client develop a dynamic interpersonal relationship. It differs from traditional art in that the emphasis can also be on the process of creating as well as or rather than the end product.
Art therapy is a process suitable for all ages, for those who may be experiencing life changes, trauma, illness, addiction, spiritual development or disabilities causing distress for the individual.
Art therapy works by contributing to changes in the client's inner world, & towards the development of a client's more integrated sense of self, with increased awareness, acceptance & emotional well-being. It allows the client to connect with their own personal symbolism, mythology and meaning making.
It can also be deeply moving as well as a lot of fun!
