A different method for getting yourself ready to train…

Ever had days in the gym where you feel more athletic and powerful?

Ever had days where everything feels heavy?

This shows the dynamic nature of our nervous system.

One day or week we are good, the next…not so much

What if there was a way to tap into your highest and best self every time you step into the gym?

Good news - there is.

Imagine each muscle in the body has a light switch.

Imagine that sometimes we trip the switch to these muscles

What do we do if we trip a switch at home?

We go to the switchboard and turn it back on. Delivering 100% electricity back to the area of the house we wanted

The body works the same way

We sometimes trip our switches or ‘blow a fuse’

This warm up hints at how to go to our bodies switchboard and flick muscles back on

Yes, I agree it sounds like complete voodoo.

I’ve done it and had tremendous benefits. It’s part of techniques I’ve been doing with my Myotherapy clients in person.

The warm up won’t make sense till I make some cute videos about it, but this is the protocol I follow for lower body :-)

New things are coming….

Decided to use my whiteboard for all clinical testing in my practice. I feel typing notes out on my computer is impersonal. I also think I can write results of clients testing down faster if I do it manually.

All session testing will be uploaded digitally to my clients account on Cliniko and reviewed upon the client coming in for their next treatment.

This testing will relate to a new method of treatment I’ve been doing for the past 9 months.

I will still be doing traditional Myotherapy and remedial massage appointments.

For me to test you as pictured - just book a 75 minute activation session from the link in my bio. I’m currently charging these out at my 60 minute rate. This method takes longer to do, but I need the extra time to perform it properly.

If you have any questions about how this treatment could positively influence you, leave me a message :) ❤️

What is my least favourite spot to get treated?

MY HANDS. Guys, I do not like to get my hands treated. Needling in this area is v painful for me and I can only stand a bit of deep tissue pressure through this area.
This is common for myos.

What are your least favourite areas to get treated that you know you should be getting looked after more often? 😅😅

Do you squat to depth?

Before this photo I used to make ‘a lot of progress on my squat’ - or so I thought.

But it always bugged me as to why I couldn’t grow my legs as viciously as I wanted.

This was until I started squatting till actual depth.

Middle of your butt but go past the middle of your knee as pictured.

In this day I did 8 reps of 180KG.

Just a few months before I could only do 1 rep of this weight.

What changed?

I started squatting to depth, my legs grew like crazy and my strength multiplied by 8 🤷

Squat to depth.

If you can’t squat to depth, then work on your hip and ankle mobility, your core bracing technique and squatting technique :)

Double tap is you squat deep! ❤️

The hidden truth about getting injured while training...

Look, its going to happen at some point. We are going to get injured in some way when we are out training, trying our best to get fit.

What should you do? Should you pull the pin on training altogether? Should you wait till you are less injured to start training again?

No, you shouldn't. Oftentimes when we get injured, a doctor will tell you to stop training altogether and 'take 6 weeks off lifting heavy'. Most of society is pleased to hear this. Finally, we don't have to feel guilty about not training. Our doctor told us not to do it, so I am going to do it!

This is by far the worst option you can take. There are ALWAYS ways you can train around injuries.

Injure your lower body? No worries, take an upper body and core strength focus for the next few weeks while you slowly start to do some specific exercises to help the lower body. Don't pull the pin on your training altogether. That is the single worst option you can take.

Double tap or click like if you agree! ❤️❤️

On one hand, I encourage people to follow a fitness plan they can do for the rest of their life.⁣

There’s no point in going “on” a diet only to come “off” a diet and lose all the results.⁣

On the other hand, when clients start working with me, I often have them track their calories or fill out a food diary using ❌ ✅ - a much faster and fun way to track.

But calorie counting may not be something a person wants to do for the rest of their life.⁣

I sure as hell wouldn’t want to.

The good news is, a person doesn’t have to be hardcore about tracking their food intake forever.⁣

However, I do see a place for *short-term* strategies like calorie counting or using a food diary.

Calorie counting raises your awareness around how much food your body actually needs.⁣

You’ll also tend to notice the little habits like adding extra calories from condiments and drinks that went unnoticed before.⁣

Long-story short, just because you won’t do something forever doesn’t mean it isn’t useful for a period of time.⁣

And when you realize it’s a periodic practice rather than a lifetime commitment, it makes it far easier to embrace.⁣

Plus, some people find it just becomes a habit no different than brushing their teeth or taking a shower.⁣ And they enjoy the certainty it gives them day to day about how they're doing.

Let me tell you a story about flat feet…

First photo - Before barefoot shoes - my foot has always been completely flat and I’ve spent $500-$700 a year on orthotic insoles

Second photo - Me after wearing barefoot shoes for 2 months - you can clearly see a foot arch starting to appear.

I’ve always felt not very connected to the earth. My feet have been these pathetically weak and flat flippers for my whole entire life.

Flat feet results in:
- More injuries
- Knee caving in on squats/deadlifts, leading to less glute activation.
- Bunions
- Slower running
- And more!

Wearing barefoot shoes is not sexy. You actually lose a couple inches of height and the shoes are just pure ugly lol. But I think having strong feet is cooler and will help me lift better in the gym.

Im also noticing that my calf muscles are REALLY growing since switching.

Do you have flat feet? Did you also think it was a genetic curse that you had to deal with?
Join the cult and save thousands, lift more and feel more balanced 😂❤️

KNOWLEDGE UPDATE 🔥

Just spent the weekend doing an advanced dry needling course to add onto the needling skills I already have.

Absolutely love doing courses like these ones !

Lots of new places to try this week!

Who is keen to get some needling on unconventional areas? 😁

Ever woken up with tingly hands? Ever been at the gym and feel one side is weaker than the other?

You might have some form of mild-severe nerve compression caused by posture, joint immobility and muscular tightness.

I treated Dale last Friday to improve his ‘neurodynamics’ - think about if you were to stand on a garden hose. Would there be much current getting through? No!

Same goes with nerves. If they are compressed anywhere from our spine to our hands, this will compromise how they work.

If this is left long term, surgery is a usual method to fix this. But you don’t want to let it get to that!
