Stress happens at the brain. It is the way your brain interprets things. Your brain is responsible for sending messages to your reproductive system and is in control of how regular your cycle is and when you ovulate. When there is too much stress coming in, it disrupts the connection between your brain and your ovaries. Often this results in delayed or absent ovulation, or an irregular cycle. What can we do minimise this impact on our fertility? The truth is, you don’t need to quit your job or meditate for an hour ever day.
I see too many women creating more stress by being too worried about being stressed (head explosion!!)
Start by looking at what stresses you are currently experiencing. It may not be obvious. Our brain can’t differentiate between different types of stress. Things like over-exercising, poor nutrition, and under eating can all create a stress response.
Try to find ways to incorporate more of the things that make you happy. Not all stress can be or needs to be eliminated, but understanding where it is coming from can help. For example there may be things in your life where the stress isn’t worth the payoff… like a crappy friendship, some social events, family friction, and late nights. ..Set boundaries. It can be challenging, but you are the only one that can care for yourself in this way.

Babies aren’t made of sugar and spice and all things nice! Your baby is literally made of vitamins and minerals, protein and carbohydrates and most especially healthy fats! When you’re planning to have a baby, it is important to start thinking about cleaning up your act: women and men need to cut out alcohol and ci******es - essential no-brainer. But working on your diet, ahead of time, is also important. First check in with a practitioner trained to understand nutrition so you can assess your needs and any nutritional shortfalls.Nutrients are more than just simple fuel for our engine, particular nutrients function in particular ways, for example, iron carrying oxygen, protein to build muscle and tissue, calcium for bones. Nutrients affect everything and it isn’t just folate that matters! Our nutritional status is affected by so many things: stress, digestive issues, food quality, dietary intake, environmental factors such as pollution, exposure to pesticides, plastics, cigarette smoking, drugs and alcohol, genetic factors … the list goes on. The fact is, if you’re not paying attention to what you’re eating, you may be missing important nutrients. Getting on top of your diet and lifestyle prior to conceiving ensures you have plenty of nutrients on board to support a healthy pregnancy, growing baby and breastfeeding and prepares you for feeding a healthy family.

Grounding is the simple practice of placing your bare feet on the ground to have direct physical contact with the vast supply of electrons on the surface of the Earth. It might sound woo woo, but research tells us that many processes in the body can be improved with grounding (earthing), such as sleep, stress response and inflammation.Kick your shoes off when your hanging out the laundry or watering the garden, at the park and beach to enjoy the benefits of grounding x

These are the most common questions we get asked about acupuncture:
☼ Does it hurt? Not at all! If it feels sharp we adjust the needle, it is relatively pain-free and incredibly relaxing.
☼ Does it work?
Yes! I can't tell you how many times I have been floored about how this incredible system of healing works 🙌🏼
☼ How does it work?
Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine, sterile, single use, disposable needles into specific sites along energy pathways (meridians).
Research shows acupuncture may activate neuro-hormonal pathways and trigger physiological responses within the body.
By restoring a deep balance within the body, we aim to treat the cause of your ailment, not just your symptoms.

Adequate food and nutrient intake should start in the preconception period to promote healthy egg development and prepare the body for pregnancy. Often we find women are not eating enough protein. Aim to eat about 1g of protein per kg of weight each day (a big handful of protein with each meal is a rough guide). Including healthy fats with meals (avocado, olive oil etc.) is a great way to stay fuller for longer and keep your energy levels stable.
Fill out your plate with plenty of seasonal vegetables. These boost the nutrients needed for healthy hormone function and aid digestion/detoxification. And often the more vitamins and minerals you get from food sources the less supplements you will require.

10/11/2023

A pre-natal multi-vitamin, or other pre-natal supplements are often suggested for women trying to conceive. There are so many available on the market, all offering something a little different, but mostly offering the recommended vitamin B9 (as folic acid or folinic acid or other variations) as this has been proven to unequivocally prevent certain birth abnormalities. You may read that iron is also an essential ingredient, or that you shouldn’t take it in first trimester. Some pre-natal supplements have iodine, others seem to have many ingredients you’ve never heard of. Many people take these supplements assuming they are harmless and can only be doing them good – they’re vitamins, right? What could go wrong?Mulit-vitamins feel harmless and safe, however, we are all quite unique in our nutritional requirements and genetic profiles. For example, not everyone can convert folic acid (the synthetic form of B9 that is often included in supplements) into the useable form our bodies actually benefit from. Some people, especially those with a thyroid issue, should tread very carefully around iodine supplementation and anyone with the genetic condition haemochromatosis is put at risk from iron supplements. Seemingly innocuous things can take on an entirely different meaning when assessed for individuals. We highly recommend against self-prescribing if you are untrained in this area. It is at the very least wasteful if it gives you little or no benefit and it may be harmful if you get it totally wrong. Check in with us for recommendations tailored to your specific needs.
