Alison Eastland Online courses, individual sessions worldwide via Zoom, and in-person teaching in the Huon Valley. My way of practising and teaching is gentle and easy-paced.

I am deeply inspired by the nature and landscape of the Melurkedee land of the Palawa people that I live and work on (the Huon Valley, lutruwita/Tasmania). My practice over the years has been an oasis for me, and is a calm centre in the midst of change and challenge. I spent my younger years chronically ill, stressed, and in pain, so every day I appreciate the mental and physical ease and strength that my practice has given me. I am so grateful that I can share this practice, thanks to the wisdom, knowledge and generosity of the lineage of teachers who have shared their knowledge and inspired me. After all, most of us have already had enough practice at pushing ourselves and rushing around, and we don’t need any more of that. Despite what you see in popular media, finding calm, ease and courage doesn’t need to involve fancy Yoga poses. Yoga & mindfulness can be a practical, useful, and very nurturing part of your every day life. My moving meditations are within a normal range of movement. The power of the practice comes from mindfulness of the breath and in cultivating kind, non-judgemental attention. I offer courses and private sessions for my local community, as well as online worldwide. I also grow food for my local community on my small farm, where I live with my husband Tom and Bonnie the Dog. I’ve been a Yoga & meditation teacher and a food grower for more than 16 years, and I’ve been a nature lover my whole life. I’m deeply interested in how the practice of Yoga and our belonging with nature can support, comfort, nourish and inspire us in these challenging times. Living and working on Melurkedee country, I respectfully acknowledge the palawa/pakana people as the Traditional Custodians of lutruwita (Tasmania) . I pay my respects to elders past, present and emerging and acknowledge that sovereignty has never been ceded. My new offering, Calm & Courage is now available at https://alison-eastland.thinkific.com

How are you here at the end of 2025? It's been a lot, I know, and I'm hearing that people are weary; mentally, emotionally & physically.
The best practice I know for this kind of fatigue is yoga nidra guided deep rest.
All you need is a supportive comfortable spot so you can let your body rest, and listen along (it's ok if you fall asleep!)
I’m sending out a summer solstice yoga nidra to my email list today. If you’d like to receive it, pop your email address into my little form at https://alisoneastland.com/newsletter before Wednesday.

I love the cosy come-as-you-are culture of our evening zoom sessions.
At least a couple of people are likely to be in pyjamas.
There will be various dogs randomly booping the screen.
Some locals, like me, might have earth stained hands and hat-hair from fitting in some desperately needed weeding during the break in the rain.
And there’ll be cameras that are switched off too, because introverts are always welcome here.
Elvis likes to supervise from the beanbag.
A few minutes before the session to chat for those who like to, usually about how busy the day was for everyone, or about how much rain everyone’s had or not had in various parts of the country, and after the session, I stick around to answer questions but most are quietly going back into their evening feeling decompressed and peaceful (or already snoring!) 💕

Hello! I haven't been on social media much lately.
Running a solo business these days means using social media, but I feel a strong aversion to the oligarchy behind these channels.
Yet at the same time, the crazier things get, the more I really want to offer things that are helpful and hopeful.
I realised today that I’ve now had over 1,400 people enjoy my free Simple Little Practices for Calm series, and that makes me happy.
I imagine the effects of nourished nervous systems rippling out into the world and adding support for compassion, empathy, and inclusivity.
If you haven’t enjoyed these short practices for calm yet and you’d like to, you can sign up for free at https://alisoneastland.com/simple-little-practices-for-calm
Every week for 8 weeks, you’ll receive a couple of nurturing, simple little video or audio mini-practice (between 5 and 30 minutes) via email.
Each practice is designed to be easy to fit into your day, to leave you feeling replenished and calm.
Sometimes I get asked "is this series really free? Really?"
Yes, because I really need to put something good out into the world.
Yes, you'll see some notices at the ends of my emails about my other paid offerings, because that's how I make my living, but you are very welcome to completely ignore them if you're not interested! And you can unsubscribe at the end if you want to, or stick around for a monthly newsletter (also free).

While certain four legged friends are enjoying the muddy conditions, the strong gusty winds and rapid weather changes can leave a lot of us feeling ungrounded, on top of everything that is unsettling about the world at the moment.
For our last week of term our practice theme is: simple practices that soothe the nervous system.
There are just a few places left for term 4 yoga on Monday/Wednesday evenings and Thursday afternoons.
The times, dates, fees and booking links are all up at https://alisoneastland.com/huon-valley-yoga-meditation
I hope you have moments of pure joy this week like a Labrador sprinting through a big rain puddle.

I now have another gentle yoga practice that anyone can join, including beginners!
I’ve noticed the needs of our community changing, so I’m happy to be making my Wednesday 6:30pm practice much more accessible.
Just like my Monday night class, it will include gentle, breath-based yoga within an ordinary everyday range of movement, practices that nurture your nervous system, and guided relaxation.
You can join from your home on Zoom, or in-person in my little yoga cabin in Geeveston (places limited).
As you can see, Elvis will be teaching these classes, with me assisting. Checking his notes, he said that there will be 10 minutes of fast enthusiastic tail wagging to warm up, followed by 80 minutes of deep snoring relaxation.
Seriously though, the details and booking links for all term 4 classes are coming out in my local newsletter tomorrow so you can sign up at https://alisoneastland.com/huon-valley-yoga-meditation to get first dibs for all classes.

Good Boy Elvis passed his Public Access test last week and is now a fully qualified assistance dog. There are hundreds of hours of work involved in training an assistance dog and we couldn’t have done it without all the support we’ve had.
Especially his dad Tom dicing up & dehydrating healthy food into all the training treats!
Our fabulous trainer Kat of The Happy Hound Initiative is wonderful (I highly recommend her for any dog training).
Special thanks to the Geeveston Town Hall and Visitor Centre who not only always welcomed us with kindness and let us practice going up & down in the lift, but also made the extra effort to ask and learn how to better support assistance dog teams.
Thanks to all our encouraging friends, including the ones who pretended to be Uber drivers for our Uber practice!
The staff at Petstock Country Huonville have been so encouraging.
And thanks to Huon Valley Mitre 10 in Geeveston, the Geeveston IGA, Salamanca Fresh Huonville and Venus & Mars Huonville.
Thanks to Assistance Paws Australia for handling all the official stuff and having our backs.
I’ve often been asked whether I’m training Elvis for someone else.
I’ve even been asked if I assistance-trained him just so I could take my dog everywhere!
No, an assistance dog must by law be task-trained to assist someone with a disability, and who can provide evidence of that disability, and that’s me.
Only 10 to 20% of disabilities in Australia are visible.
I was born with a developmental disability that I’ve only recently come to fully understand, and it came with a cluster of physical disabilities that I've been lucky to be able to mitigate with yoga.
I teach yoga because it has helped me keep my mind & body strong & healthy, and I want to share those benefits.
I also function much better out & about in the world alongside a doggo.
Elvis gives me a boop with his nose when my sensory systems get overloaded with too much external information, so I know exactly when to give myself some space & quiet and do some yoga breathing before I get too depleted.
And he loves training & working even more than the beach, so it’s a win-win.
If you see him in his vest, don’t take it personally but he’ll ignore you, because he’s working - so please don’t distract him.
But if you come to the yoga cabin, he’ll be wearing his bandanna for his part time job as a Therapy Dog, and he's always enthusiastic for a pat in the bandanna!
And if you see him on sniffari in the park or on the beach without his work clothes, it’s up to him whether he says hi but you’ll probably get ignored because that’s his time to sniff ALL the sniffs!
The PAT test is only the beginning - we still have so much to learn, so we really appreciate all your support.
Lots of love from us xo

EDIT: the place is now filled, but there are still 2 remaining afternoon retreats for the year - same link, below.

Due to a cancellation I have just one place available for this nurturing afternoon of gentle yoga, meditation and relaxation to celebrate the balance of light & dark, and cultivate balance in body and mind.
A delicious light afternoon tea will be served during a short break.
Beginners are always welcome and the group is limited to 8 people in my warm, peaceful, light-filled yoga cabin in Geeveston.
Our little yoga community is very friendly and welcoming!

I wanted to offer something enjoyable and affordable so I’ve created a gentle step by step program of one of my favourite practices. It’s a practice that can be a meditation in movement, a hopeful start to the day, or even a moving prayer.

Sun Salutes can be so much fun and so useful for mobility & healthy ageing. So I get really frustrated at the number of people who tell me they’ve been turned off trying them because they were left through them too fast, without enough instruction, and felt like they would never be flexible or strong enough to enjoy them.

I’ve drawn on over two decades of experience working with real women, with real bodies, of all ages (mostly the fabulous over 50’s!) to create this gentle step-by-step approach.

in short, easy little videos I show you how to practise in a way that nurtures your joints instead of stressing them. And how to move mindfully and easefully through the tricky bits like getting up & down and moving in & out of lunges.

Once you know a Sun Salute you have something for life that can help calm your mind, lift your spirits, and keep you feeling mobile & strong.

The gentle sun salutes are great for your mental health too. Sitting still for meditation doesn’t work for everyone. If our stress or anxiety levels are high, it’s often more accessible to use movement as our meditation.

For $30 you have access for a whole year, so you can really take your time.

More info at programs.alisoneastland.com/courses/gentle-sun-salutes or see the link in my bio.
