"Wow! It's so much easier to breath and look at my oxygen levels!" Mum exclaimed from her hospital bed as she recovered from a knee replacement.
Now normally I don't do Bowen Therapy until six week post-op, but the nurses were concerned her oxygen levels were below 94 on day two. Mum was sitting at 92 or 95 with oxygen support. After a few gentle Bowen moves for her diaphragm we watched the monitor climb to 98!

I can’t believe it – no asthma today! 🚴‍♀️💨
While riding uphill, I suddenly realised I haven’t had asthma for weeks… unheard of!

To be clear, I only have mild, exercise-induced asthma, but usually, as soon as I start puffing, it shows up. The only thing I’ve changed? I’ve been doing a few Bowen Therapy moves most nights to relax my diaphragm – not even for asthma, just to help me unwind and sleep better.

And here’s the best part: you can learn it too!
Book in for two 1-hour sessions with me, and at your second session I’ll teach you this simple technique so you can use it at home. It’s a total game changer. 🙌

MEDIA RELEASE
Jo Cordell-Cooper – finalist in National Awards PT of the Year (for the 3rd time)
Hobart based holistic personal trainer vies for the title of title of Australian Personal Trainer of the year, for the third time. Having won Tasmanian Personal Trainer of the Year twice already, could this be a case of third time lucky?

“I am honoured to be recognised by our industry peak body AusActive for achieving excellence once again. What I’d really like to do is showcase the benefits of nature based exercise on all aspects of health, but especially mental health” says Jo who has focused on hiking fitness as the driver for addressing lifestyle stress. Jo offers beginners hiking sessions as well as half day and multiday hikes. She is about to take 9 Tasmanian women to the 6 day Jatbula Trail near Katherine, while last year they tackled the best of the Larapinta Trail in Central Australia. Next year she hopes to take a group to Kangaroo Island for a 6 day hike.
“Hiking gives people a real goal to work towards, while connecting with like minded people and reaping the physical, mental and social benefits of hiking”. Additionally, Jo is well known for working with quite complex clients such as those dealing with cancer or its aftermath, neuro-degenerative conditions, and other auto-immune conditions. “At the end of the day, exercise is medicine and improves your lot in so many ways. It is important though to be trained in these areas, but also to communicate with the medical profession and allied health professionals. I think these skills have put me in good stead for this award”.

Award winners will be announced in Sydney in October. Jo is up against 9 other personal trainers from all over Australia and is the only Tasmanian finalist.

Did you know that your jaw and pelvis are connected?

Research shows that when people with certain pain conditions (like complex regional pain syndrome, or CRPS) had their jaw muscles relaxed, their hip flexibility improved. But when they clenched their jaw tightly, their hip flexibility decreased.

This study highlights something Bowen Therapists have long understood: tension or imbalance in one area of the body can affect distant parts.

In this case, the jaw and pelvis are linked through muscular and fascial connections, meaning tension in one area can restrict movement in the other.

Bowen Therapy’s gentle techniques aim to release tension and restore balance across the body.

By gently working with both local and interconnected areas, Bowen Therapy aims to encourage flexibility, ease discomfort, and support the body’s natural alignment.

Why is Bowen better than massage?
MASSAGE is primarily supporting the muscular system by kneading and palpating the muscles which relaxes the muscles. This in turn helps with the nervous system (reduces stress and promotes relaxation).
BOWEN effects the fascia. Fascia is the richest sensory organ - richer than the skin, even richer than the sense of seeing! It's the most important structure in our body; every single muscle (including myofibrils which are fibres running within the muscle), organs, blood vessels, nerves are all surrounded by fascia. Fascia is our communication network that serves the whole body. Fascia fibres hold a high content of water and they can dry out and get hard. This can happen for any reason (injury, stress, the simple mechanics of our body). Bowen changes the water binding in fascia to make it more liquid making a softer binding property. Bowen doesn't just work on the musculoskeletal system (muscles and tendons), it works on every single area of our body (respiratory, heart, kidney, digestive system and even the spaces in between the organs) making it a much more superior treatment in my opinion.

Clients receiving Bowen often say they feel a wait has been lifted off their shoulders.

🌿 Success Story: Gwen’s Amazing Shoulder Recovery! 🌿

Gwen*, 68, struggled to even walk into my treatment room, cradling her arm to support her shoulder, which was in excruciating pain—10/10 on the pain scale. She was sleep-deprived and the pain, now extending into both shoulders, was so great she could barely drive to the appointment but was so desperate for relief that she powered through.

Her shoulder had been sore for a few days, getting progressively worse until it went into a severe spasm and extended into both shoulders. But directly after just one Bowen Therapy session, Gwen felt immediate relief! The pain dropped to 3/10, she stopped cradling her arm, and could drive more comfortably.

Within just three days, the pain in her shoulder was completely gone. 🌟 And sleep was blissful.

If you’re dealing with unbearable pain, don’t lose hope. Bowen Therapy could be the answer you’ve been searching for!

🌿 Success Story: Wayne’s Remarkable Recovery! 🌿

Meet *Wayne, a sole-trader in his 30s working a demanding labouring job. He badly tore his meniscus and was in agony for two weeks. His knee was swollen, he could barely bend it, and driving to job sites was a painful challenge.

But after just one Bowen Therapy session, the swelling went down so dramatically that we were both gobsmacked! Wayne could hardly believe the improvement. He had greater range of motion in his knee and could drive his car with little discomfort—something he hadn’t expected so soon.

Wayne was so impressed with the results that he switched from regular massage to Bowen Therapy and hasn’t looked back since! 🌟

If you’re struggling with pain or injury, don’t hesitate to give Bowen Therapy a try. It could be the game-changer you’ve been looking for!

*With the clients permission I am sharing this story and to protect his privacy I'm calling him Wayne.

🌼 Hey everyone! Just a little heads-up from the allergy central (aka my house)! 😄 While I absolutely adore flowers, this time of year turns us into sneezing machines. Apparently, the pollen is feeling extra feisty this season! 🌸 So, if you were thinking of brightening my day with some lovely garden blooms, how about sharing photos of your stunning garden treasures instead. 📸 Your thoughtfulness means the world to me, even if it's pollen-free! Thanks a bunch (of virtual flowers)! 🌻

A heart to help

My name is Kathy Pigden and I launched my own massage business in July 2019. My primary aim is to assist people with pain relief, rehabilitation, physical and mental well-being while providing them with information to self-manage where possible.

To achieve this, I completed a certificate in Relaxation Massage (Cert IV in Massage Therapy) and opened a home based business to provide my clients with a quality massage. Encouraged by strong demand and positive feedback from clients, I moved to a new location where the facilities where more suited and continued my studies in a Diploma of Remedial Massage Therapy.

I offer Remedial and Relaxation Massage Treatments, although Remedial Treatments are given as a student until I finish clinic sessions in April 2020. After which time I will register with the private health funds to provide my clients with the opportunity to receive private health rebates from their private health fund.

Remedial Treatments are more targeted a certain areas where there is pain, such as the back and neck areas. Where as Relaxation Treatments are a more gentle and holistic approach assisting with mental and physical relaxation (and often sleep). The most popular treatment is a mix of both, starting with a Relaxation Treatment and when I find troublesome spots I use Remedial modalities (techniques) to ease them and continue on with Relaxation.
