It’s World Kindness Day 💛

We often think of kindness as something we give: a smile, a good deed, a helping hand.

But it starts closer to home.

Being kind to yourself might look like eating a proper meal, slowing down long enough to enjoy it, or speaking to yourself the way you’d speak to someone you care about.

Because when you look after yourself, you show up better for everyone around you.

Be kind to yourself and to someone else today. 🌿

Did you see that reel about Greek-style yoghurt?

It’s sparked a lot of confusion... so let’s clear things up 👇

🧠 The claim: “Greek-style yoghurts contain emulsifiers.”
❌ Not always true.

Some brands do use thickeners or emulsifiers to mimic the thick texture of strained Greek yoghurt but many don’t.

✅ What really matters is the ingredient list.

If you prefer fewer additives, look for yoghurt made simply with milk, cream and live cultures rather than those with added thickeners or emulsifiers.

💡 You might also see “milk solids” on the label. This just refers to the natural parts of milk (proteins and lactose), not an added emulsifier or gum.

Here are a few Greek-style yoghurts made the simple way 👇

A recipe for a very simple salad:

- 1 x gem or baby cos lettuce
- some tomatoes 🍅 chopped
- some cucumber chopped
- olives, sliced
- 1/2 French shallot 🧅 thinly sliced
- 1/2 or 1 avocado 🥑 sliced/chopped
- some feta, crumbled over the salad

Dressing:
- a drizzle of evoo 🫒
- some apple cider vinegar

You could also add grated carrot, sliced mushrooms, sliced capsicum, sliced radish or whatever veg you like! 😉

This salad 🥗 is what I served tonight with meat and potato! So simple, so delicious 😋 😍

It’s Global Prebiotics Week 💚 and if you’ve missed it so far, don’t worry… this is one of those topics that matters all year round.

You’ve likely heard of probiotics ...live bacteria found naturally in the gut, as well as in select fermented foods and supplements.

But what about prebiotics?

They’re the fibers and plant compounds that feed those beneficial bacteria, helping them grow, diversify, and produce short-chain fatty acids that influence everything from metabolism to mood and immune balance.

When your gut microbes are well fed, your whole body feels the benefit.

🌱 I like to think of your gut as a garden:
The probiotics are the plants, and the prebiotics are the soil, sunlight, and water that help them thrive.

This week (and every week), try adding more prebiotic-rich foods like garlic, onions, asparagus, kiwi, and oats to help your inner ecosystem flourish.

💛 Better health truly begins in the gut.

🎃 Halloween as a Nutritionist Mum

I wasn’t sure whether to share this, but I can’t be the only mum who feels conflicted about Halloween.

I spend all year managing sugar then Halloween shows up and laughs in my face. 😅

Add the plastic decorations, the costumes, the sugar highs… and it all feels a bit much.

Last year I skipped the trick-or-treating.

We carved a pumpkin, baked cupcakes, and stayed home and my son was so disappointed.

He’s never gone trick-or-treating before, and this year he really wants to.

So, we’re doing it.

I’m still conflicted but I also know how much joy these childhood moments bring.
Sometimes connection matters more.

I’ll make sure he has a proper snack/meal before we head out (because hungry kids + a bag of sugar = chaos 😅), and I’ll quietly veto the worst of what lands in his bucket.

Those artificial colours and flavours don’t need to come home with us. 😉

🎃 Keep the fun
💛 Teach balance
🍫 Let kids be kids with a little awareness along the way?

How do you feel about Halloween?

Love it, tolerate it, or totally loathe it?

🌸 World Menopause Day 2025

Today is World Menopause Day 🌿

This year’s theme, Lifestyle Medicine, couldn’t be more aligned with what Nutritional Medicine is all about.

At 42, and as a Clinical Nutritionist, I’ve realised perimenopause isn’t something to fear. It’s our window to repair, rebuild, and prepare. How empowering is that?

The small choices we make now: how we eat, move, sleep, and manage stress,  shape how smoothly we move through this transition later.

💛 Lifestyle medicine is about progress, not perfection . It starts with one healthy choice at a time.

✨ Start now, your future self will thank you.

💛 Save this post as a reminder that small, consistent changes matter.

✨️ My reset breakfast this week ✨️

This has been my breakfast everyday this week! Simple, real food & I'm feeling so much better already.

Rolled oats with almond milk, banana, stewed mulberries, pumpkin and sunflower seeds.

I've also introduced a morning ritual of lemon water and green tea....no coffee ☕️ first thing ( a bad habit I slipped into during the holidays).

It's amazing how quickly you feel the shift! 😀

How's your reset going? 😍

School holidays, what a ride!

They get me every time. Routines go out the window by week two.

I started with the best intentions to keep things healthy… and then life, travel, activities, and late nights took over.

A little too much eating out.
A little too much wine.
A little too much sugar.

And I feel it. Sluggish, tired, and just… off.

So, it’s time for a reset.

For me, that means:

✔️ Getting back to meal planning, food prep & cooking!
✔️ Stocking the fridge with real ingredients
✔️ Bringing back structure
✔️ Saying no to the mindless extras

I believe in boundaries when it comes to food.

Not punishment, but nourishment.

Because when I eat well, everything else falls into place.

If you’re feeling the same, you’re not alone.

I’m resetting this week starting with a grocery shop and meal planning.

Let’s do it together. 💪

🌿 Wellness Wednesday Pick 🌿

This week I’m spotlighting SSS Wholefoods Hommus (a good supermarket option).

Why it gets my vote:

✅ No preservatives
✅ No added oils
✅ Plant protein + fiber for satiety & gut health

I regularly have hommus in the fridge for quick veggie dips, or spread on rice cakes with sardines or tuna. How do you like your hommus?

✨ Here’s the truth: no one has a perfect diet.

And you don’t need one.

As our hormones, stress levels, metabolism and energy change, the way we eat sometimes needs to change too. What worked in your 20s may not serve you in your 40s.

Many women I see think they’re “doing everything right” yet they’re still exhausted, battling with their weight, gut issues, or struggling with meal prep.

👉 Often it’s because what looks healthy (low-fat, protein bars, gluten-free snacks) isn’t actually nourishing their body.

👉 Even “healthy eaters” often miss the basics like eating with the seasons, 5+ serves of veg a day, or getting enough magnesium.

💡 This is where clinical nutrition is different.

🩸 I interpret blood tests through a prevention lens (not just disease).

🧪 I arrange microbiome and gut function testing when needed, to reveal what’s really happening inside.

These tools allow me to personalise your diet so food works for you, not against you.

A healthy diet isn’t about perfection. It’s about consistency, sustainability, and meeting your body’s needs right now.

💬 If you’re ready to cut through the noise and find what healthy really means for YOU, let’s chat.

🍓 Choose Organic When You Can 🍓

Recent testing found pesticide residue in berries sold in supermarkets. Even when "within limits", it adds to the chemical load our bodies deal with every day.

Strawberries also regularly feature on the dirty dozen list, meaning they're among the most pesticide sprayed produce.

That's why I try to buy organic whenever I can.

Strawberries are rich in vitamin C, antioxidants, fiber and polyphenols that support immune health, skin and gut function. Choosing organic helps you enjoy these benefits without the necessary chemical load.
