🌸 Strength Training in Perimenopause

As hormones shift and decline during perimenopause, the female body becomes less efficient at building and maintaining lean muscle and bone density, making strength training especially important.

Traditional endurance-focused exercise isn’t enough during this transition. Resistance training - especially with heavier lifts - helps counteract the muscle loss and metabolic changes that occur in perimenopause by stimulating adaptations that oestrogen once supported.

Check out the studies by Dr Stacey Sims for more information, or come along to our Barbells & Beyond training group if you want to start your strength journey now.

Sleep is more powerful than we realize 💤
When you don’t get enough rest, your muscles (including your pelvic floor) don’t fully recover, pain sensitivity can increase, and symptoms can feel more intense.

✨ Quality sleep supports:
• Muscle recovery
• Hormone regulation
• Pain management
• Nervous system regulation

Many people plan workouts, meals, and schedules—but not sleep. Adults need 7–9 hours per night for optimal healing. Aim for a cool, dark room and limit screens before bed to support deeper rest.

Pelvic health physiotherapy can help address physical factors like getting up more than once a night to p*e or other factors that may be contributing to restlessness.
Your body heals best when it rests 💙

🧠💪 Did You Know Weightlifting Isn’t Just for Your Muscles… It’s for Your Brain Too?

Strength training has some incredible effects on the brain - and the benefits go far beyond the gym. Here’s what happens upstairs when you lift weights:

✨ Boosts Mood & Reduces Stress
Lifting increases endorphins and helps regulate stress hormones, leaving you feeling clearer, calmer, and more resilient.

🧠 Improves Memory & Focus
Strength training has been linked to better cognitive function - including sharper memory, faster processing, and improved concentration.

🛡️ Protects the Brain as You Age
Research shows resistance training can help slow cognitive decline and support long-term brain health by improving blood flow and stimulating neural growth.

💥 Builds Mental Strength, Not Just Physical Strength
Seeing yourself get stronger builds confidence, improves emotional wellbeing, and helps you feel more in control of your body and mind.

Remember, if you are starting out go small, 2-3 x per week, do a variety of exercises, work with a professional, listen to your body and aim for better not perfect.

💛 Men - Let’s Talk Perimenopause 💛

Perimenopause is a major hormonal transition that many women go through, and it can bring changes in mood, energy, sleep, and overall wellbeing. Even though men don’t experience it themselves, understanding what’s happening can make a huge difference at home and in relationships.

Here are 3 things worth knowing:

1️⃣ Hormone changes can affect emotions and energy levels.
Shifts in hormones can influence mood, stress tolerance, and sleep. If your partner seems more tired, overwhelmed, or emotional - it’s often the body adjusting, not something personal.

2️⃣ What helps most is support, not solutions.
Sometimes all that’s needed is space to talk, someone to listen, or a bit of extra patience. You don’t need to have the answers - just being present can make the biggest impact.

3️⃣ Mid-life can be a turning point for both partners.
While she’s navigating physical changes, you might be dealing with your own shifts - stress, ageing, work demands, identity changes. Talking openly creates understanding on both sides and strengthens connection.

💬 Simple ways to support:
✔️ Ask “How can I support you today?”
✔️ Listen without trying to fix everything
✔️ Be patient during tough days
✔️ Encourage rest, movement, and checking in with health professionals

Perimenopause is easier to navigate with empathy, communication, and teamwork.

💙 November 19 – International Men’s Day 💙

Today we’re recognizing International Men’s Day - a day to celebrate the men in our lives and to shine a light on something truly important: men’s health and wellbeing.

Too often, men put their health last- pushing through pain, skipping check-ups, and keeping silent about how they really feel. But looking after yourself isn’t weakness - it’s strength. 💪

This International Men’s Day, we’re encouraging all men to:
✅ Book a health check – early prevention can save lives.
🧠 Check in on your mental health – talk to a mate, reach out, or chat to a professional. Poor mental health is closely linked to su***de, and every conversation can make a difference.
💬 Move your body, prioritise rest, and seek help when you need it.

At Evolve Physio & Pelvic Health Geraldton, we’re here to support every aspect of your wellbeing - from movement and strength, to pelvic health and recovery.

Let’s make health something men talk about, value, and act on. 💙
