💛 The Motherhood Connection Survey 💛

Motherhood can be incredibly joyful - but it can also feel isolating and lonely, especially in the years since COVID.

This important survey is exploring how mothers across Australia are building friendships, finding support, and navigating loneliness in the early years of motherhood.

If you’ve become a mum in the past six years (including birth, fostering, adoption, surrogacy or step-parenting), your voice matters. It only takes 5 minutes and responses are confidential.

Run by Women’s Agenda in partnership with Medibank, this survey will help inform national conversations and initiatives to better support mothers’ mental health and wellbeing.

Please note: Some questions discuss loneliness, pregnancy loss and mental health.

If you need support, you can contact:
📞 Beyond Blue - 1300 224 636
📞 Lifeline – 13 11 14
📞 PANDA (Perinatal Anxiety & Depression Australia) – 1300 726 306

Share your experiences on friendships and loneliness and making new connections in the early motherhood years. Take the 5-minute survey.

👏 LOVE seeing this initiative launched 👏

Introducing Bloody Good Sport 🩸 - a powerful movement making sure menstruation is never a barrier to participating in sport.

The stats are confronting:
🩸 68% of players have skipped sport because of their period
🩸 90% worry about leaking during games
🩸 72% feel anxious managing their period while playing

That’s not fair play - and it shouldn’t be the norm.

Bloody Good Sport is stepping up by working with clubs, coaches and communities to:
✅ Provide free period products in sporting facilities and first aid kits
✅ Promote period-friendly uniforms and policies
✅ Deliver education for athletes, coaches and staff
✅ Break down stigma through awareness and open conversation

Huge kudos to Share the Dignity for leading this change and providing practical resources to help clubs get on board.

👉 If your club, school or organisation wants to get involved, sign the pledge or would like help implementing this initiative, please reach out or contact me directly - I’d love to support you.

Because sport should be inclusive, supportive and accessible -every player, every game, every period covered ❤️

🌸 Strength Training in Perimenopause

As hormones shift and decline during perimenopause, the female body becomes less efficient at building and maintaining lean muscle and bone density, making strength training especially important.

Traditional endurance-focused exercise isn’t enough during this transition. Resistance training - especially with heavier lifts - helps counteract the muscle loss and metabolic changes that occur in perimenopause by stimulating adaptations that oestrogen once supported.

Check out the studies by Dr Stacey Sims for more information, or come along to our Barbells & Beyond training group if you want to start your strength journey now.

Sleep is more powerful than we realize 💤
When you don’t get enough rest, your muscles (including your pelvic floor) don’t fully recover, pain sensitivity can increase, and symptoms can feel more intense.

✨ Quality sleep supports:
• Muscle recovery
• Hormone regulation
• Pain management
• Nervous system regulation

Many people plan workouts, meals, and schedules—but not sleep. Adults need 7–9 hours per night for optimal healing. Aim for a cool, dark room and limit screens before bed to support deeper rest.

Pelvic health physiotherapy can help address physical factors like getting up more than once a night to p*e or other factors that may be contributing to restlessness.
Your body heals best when it rests 💙
