Hub Cap's Literacy Program – Relaunch 📚

Originally launched in 2022 as part of Hub Cap, our Literacy Program is back — now fully funded thanks to the generous support of Community Bank Geraldton

Designed for men facing significant life barriers, the program builds confidence, healing and personal growth through improved literacy.

There are no tests, no classrooms and no pressure — just one-on-one support in a relaxed, welcoming space, tailored to each individual.

The program recommences on 6 March 2026, 12pm at The Men’s Hub, 156 Durlacher St, led by Matthew Aitchison.

Cut Throat Conversations Local Hero Brenten Wellington dropped into Hub Cap today to pick up his silent auction bounty. Dustin's Pelican was a crowd favourite and Brenten had to dig deep for the winning bid. Thanks Brenten, we've received great feedback for your contribution to the interviews, and we really appreciate you supporting our Hub Cap artists!

Our Hub Cap Collaborative Art Piece is now home! 🖼️🎨

Hub Cap artists have been working away on a collaborative painting to be donated to Men's Community Intervention Service - Desert Blue Connect It was on display as part of our Hub Cap Art Exhibition at Cut Throat Conversations 2024, and now rests proudly at home with MCIS.

Today - 10 December - marks the final day of to Stop Violence Against Women campaign. There is so much to be done that it can feel overwhelming. But - there are small steps you can take to help.

Now, more than ever, it’s vital that we come together as a community to raise awareness, show compassion, and take action. Ending this violence will take all of us, but together, we can create a safer, more supportive world for everyone - Desert Blue Connect

Hub Cap Art Studio is open 5 days a week. Our amazing tutor Kerrie is there every Wednesday afternoon to help and guide if needed. Otherwise, it's free, it's informal, it's fun and it's yours to drop in anytime and make a beautiful mess!

Have you seen these legends about town⁉️If you haven't yet, here's the FINAL REVEAL‼️These four amazing community members put their hairs in our hands to help raise money & awareness in support of efforts to stop the scourge of family and domestic violence.

Mel & Michelle (Housing First - Centacare Family Services , Seth (headspace Geraldton) and Mayor Jerry (Jerry Clune - City of Greater Geraldton Mayor & City of Greater Geraldton) braved a summer buzz to help raise money for Desert Blue Connect's Men's Community Intervention Service - Desert Blue Connect 🟠 a critical service working directly with perpetrators of FDV.

Can you imagine a more difficult or more important role? Please support the efforts of our volunteers and of course the MCIS by donating to the cause. Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who as already donated.

Some of our HUB CAP MUSICIANS serenaded our audience at CUT THROAT CONVERSATIONS with Midnight Special to welcome the legendary Danny Shannon to the stage.

We were also privileged to have the amazingly talented Rob Zielinski & Manuela Centanni play for us throughout the evening.

LITERACY IS FREEDOM. There are many ways we communicate, but the ability to read and write is essential to navigating the modern world.

Meet Malcolm. Malcolm was our MC for Cut Throat Conversations 2024. How amazing was his story⁉️

When he first came to Hub Cap two years ago, he could not read anything. At the age of 58, Hub Cap helped Malcolm learn how to read. He read his MC notes in front of our huge crowd on the night and shared his joy in signing up for a library card at the Geraldton Regional Library and taking books out to read.

Malcolm is a regular at Hub Cap still, doing some art and enjoying the Wednesday Jam Sessions even more now that he can read the words to the songs and join in.

Hub Cap Geraldton is so proud of how much Malcolm has achieved, and is looking forward to supporting him - and many others like him - on their literacy journey.

Free. Informal. Effective.
