Menopausal women are a $15 billion industry?!!
Beware the ads & the influencers. We dont need what they have to sell.
We need simple lifestyle tweaks, beautiful nutrition & a bit of hormone support.

Take care out there

CLINIC BITES.

THIS week, many of my patients are coming in with low energy, brain fog & mood swings. Now, I'm not normally one for a quick fix. But it's surprising how easy these can be to remedy (not always, but definitely often). And if I had to pick one thing that would give you the biggest bang for not many bucks, I'd say...
* * P R O T E I N * * (as in actual food, not a supplement).

Get the protein right & everything else follows.

Golden rules of protein:

1. Eat some by 10am (preferably earlier!): eg. a 3-egg scramble (takes literally 2 minutes to toss some eggs in a pan with butter, salt & pepper. Or a protein smoothie (recipe follows... I know we've just hit actual winter & who wants to be drinking cold smoothies but you could make it early & let it get to at least room temp.)
2. Eat some more in the middle of the day- as simple as leftover meat from last night's dinner. Add to a bowl of greens, throw in avocado, fetta, a few cherry tomatoes, a handful of pepitas & lots of olive oil & lemon juice.
3. Snack on a bit more in the late afternoon: celery & peanut butter / hommus & veggie sticks / handful of nuts / cup of soup or miso with a scoop of protein powder.
4. Notice how stable you feel. And how you still have energy to make dinner...

Protein Smoothie *
2C water
3 TBSP full-fat greek yoghurt
1 C raspberries
1 scoop of your favourite protein powder (I love collagen)
1 TBSP h**p or chia seeds
1 TBSP LSA meal (linseed, sunflower & almond)
1 TBSP gentle fibre blend ($5 at Woolies, contains oat bran, psyllium & flaxseed meal)
Blitz away in whatever appliance you have. And, of course, add whatever extras you love- avocado, greens powders, maca, vanilla are all good here.

*this is quite tart- I like it like this, but you might want to add 1/2 tsp honey or maple syrup

I really struggle with posting stuff online. I know- running a business you’re supposed to put yourself out there, connect with the people, have an online presence, blah blah.

But I feel like I’m competing. With a vast assortment of influencers who are waaay more social media savvy than me. Or with people who have a lot to say, often about things in which they are not actually qualified, but who can speak in ways that convinces the hoards.
You could think I’m playing it small. Indeed, I am small. But, frankly, it is a very overwhelming world that we live in & sticking one’s head out takes a lot of energy & self-confidence, neither of which I can necessarily depend upon on any given day.
I know I’m not alone. I have the distinct privilege of spending time with people in real time. Quietly. In my clinic room. Seeing the effort it takes to simply be in this world. To show up. As our wonderfully-imperfect selves. And I know this is where the real world is.
I wish I could post about this. About what I see. About the conversations I have. About how hard our bodies are working to sustain our stress-filled lives. About what we might do to take the pressure off, ease things somewhat. It’s vulnerable territory, touching on the softest parts.
But- here’s the thing- all of his takes place within a kind of magical container. And once the session is over, the container dissolves and I actually find it really hard to recall what even happened in there…
So there’s not much to post about at all, really. Might just take myself off to the beach instead.

Our Story

My journey as a Naturopath started 20 years ago when, fresh-faced from a year travelling around Australia, I stumbled through the doors of the Perth Academy of Natural Therapies. After dabbling in Chemistry, Mathematics (seriously!) & Nursing at University for few years, suddenly I felt like I was home. After graduating, I worked in busy clinics in Fremantle & Bunbury before, quite literally, landing with my young family in Geraldton for a little explore of the Mid-West. Fast forward 10 years and here I am, doing what I love. Helping patients understand how their body is trying to show them that all is not so well, whether this be headaches, joint pain, skin rashes or depression. The body has many ways of showing us when all is not so well inside- it is up to us to listen! Nature has provided an extensive array of healing tools- nutrients, herbal & homoeopathic medicines, and a glorious variety of foods. I use each of these to gently support the healing process & remove the obstacles that are getting in the way of the body feeling great.
