In the colder weather, warming spices are great to use in many dishes and hot drinks. Ginger is a great one, but we bet most of you bring out the good old vegetable peeler when removing the skin of this pungent root. Here's a tip on how to clean the skin off ginger like a pro!
- Any teaspoon or tablespoon will do the trick.
- Simply scrape the skin off the ginger using the side of the spoon.
- You’ll be amazed how easily the skin is removed. The days of using a peeler to clean your ginger are over.
- With ginger being the superfood that it is, this is a great hack to know.
- Grate it finely and enjoy it in a hot cup of water with lemon and honey and say ‘Haybo Corona’.

Did you know that there are over 60 different names for sugar on food labels?!

Sugar can be listed in many forms and be called different names. That’s why we always encourage reading not only the nutrition facts label, but the ingredient list as well.

Words ending in “ose” such as glucose are red flags, as well as dry sugars like barley malt or syrups like high fructose corn syrup

And remember it’s the added / refined sugars that we need to watch out for, and not so much the natural sugars in foods like fruit!

Keeping on the protein trend, here are some easy ideas for incorporating a protein source into snacks

Options like yogurt or cottage cheese pair well with fruit, and hard boiled eggs or deli meat pair well with whole grain crackers!

Having a protein 🍳 source with snacks helps keep your blood sugar stable between meals, and keeps you from getting overly hungry when your next meal comes around
