🚨 Your NDIS funding may soon be decided differently…

The NDIS is introducing a new assessment tool that will help determine how funding is allocated, and it’s a bit more detailed than before.

This tool looks at both the intensity 📊 and frequency ⏱️ of support needs across 12 key areas of daily life, including mobility, self-care, communication, relationships, behaviour and mental health 🧠

The aim is to build a clearer picture of how people function day-to-day, so supports can be matched more accurately 🎯

For participants, this may mean more structured conversations and a deeper look into different areas of life (not just one part of support).

While the goal is positive, we understand changes like this can feel uncertain.

You don’t have to navigate it alone 🤝

At Luma Therapy, we’re here to help you understand these updates and feel confident moving forward 💛

Behaviour is often the part we see, but it’s rarely the whole story.

Behind behaviours of concern, there is usually something deeper: unmet needs, emotional overwhelm, sensory differences, stress, or difficulty communicating what’s going on internally.

That’s why Positive Behaviour Support isn’t about “fixing” behaviour.

It’s about understanding it.

At Luma Therapy, we take the time to look at the why. We work alongside individuals, families and support teams to build practical, safe and sustainable strategies that support emotional regulation, communication and overall wellbeing.

Because when a person feels understood, supported and safe, EVERYTHING starts to shift.

Small changes in environment, routine, communication or support can make a big difference over time.

If you’re navigating behaviours of concern or looking for more support, we’re here to help 💛

✨ There are changes happening in how early supports are delivered, including the introduction of Thriving Kids.

The NDIS is designed to support people with permanent and significant disability, but this new approach focuses on helping children and families access support earlier (even before that pathway is clear).

For some families, this may mean receiving support outside the NDIS first, with the option to transition into the NDIS if longer-term support is needed.

It’s all about making support more accessible and reducing delays in getting help.

If you’re unsure what this means for you or someone you support, we’re always here to help 💛

We’re a few months into the year, and for some people, this is when things start to feel a little real.

If you’re not where you thought you’d be, that’s okay.

Plans change, priorities shift, and progress doesn’t always look the way we expect.

April can be a gentle reset: a chance to slow down, refocus, and take things one step at a time đź’›

One of the biggest misconceptions about the NDIS is that support is only needed in crisis.

The reality? Support can be just as powerful before things reach that point, helping build skills, confidence and stability over time.

Early support can make a real difference.

And you don’t have to wait until things feel overwhelming to reach out 💛

The NDIA has released a Statement of Commitment to Closing the Gap, focused on improving outcomes for First Nations people with disability.

This commitment aims to strengthen cultural safety, improve equity, and ensure First Nations voices are central in shaping how the NDIS delivers support.

It’s an important step toward a more inclusive and respectful system, one that recognises the diverse needs of individuals, families and communities across Australia.

We recently had the privilege of attending the Variety Midwest “Greatest Charity on Earth” Cocktail Party 🎪✨

As a proud sponsor, it was incredibly special to support an organisation that gives so much back to the community.

Variety are known for their generous grants, which we’ve personally seen making a real difference for children living with disability, illness, and disadvantage across WA.

It was a great opportunity to connect with others who are just as passionate about supporting our community đź’›

Thank you for having us, we’re proud to be involved.

Progress isn’t always loud or obvious. Sometimes it’s the quiet steps that matter the most.

Getting out of bed on a difficult day.

Showing up to an appointment you were nervous about.

Asking for help when things feel overwhelming.

Trying a new strategy to manage your emotions.

These moments might seem small, but they’re powerful steps forward.

At Luma Therapy, we recognise and celebrate these small wins with the people we support every day.

Progress looks different for everyone, and every step counts.
