The Do Food Project

The Do Food Project The DO Food Project Cafe is a Diverse-Ability Enterprise by Distinctive Options Pathways. Egalitarianism is practised in all that we do.

The DO Food Project is an Australian Disability Enterprise operated by the employment pathways department of Distinctive Options. Officially, Distinctive Options is a registered not-for-profit endorsed deductible gift recipient charity. We see ourselves more importantly as a profit-for-purpose provider, so we can re-invest and grow service options for our participants. Established in 1985, we provide services to children and adults with disabilities with various group and individual support options. Distinctive Options has 194 employees and over 300 participants, operating from six individual sites across the north-central-west region of Victoria. Distinctive Options Pathways provides supported employment opportunities for eligible people in Sunbury, Diggers Rest, Gisborne and the Macedon Ranges. People are the centre of our organisation, and our decision-making is guided by our people’s health and wellbeing. We support abilities by creating a safe, secure and trusting environment; we always act with integrity. We believe everyone has the right to be heard and have equal opportunity. We are an integral part of the community. We are constantly changing people’s perceptions of possibilities for people with disabilities. We are an organisation of quality and distinction. We exceed all regulatory requirements and are the best in all that we do. We approach all opportunities with sustainability in mind. We are flexible yet careful and considered in our approach options.

Toastie Tuesday? It's a date!

Robyn and Janelle work at Rose Accountants in Sunbury, which is just a short walk away from the Distinctive Options Food Project Mobile Trailer.

Calling it Toastie Tuesday, Robyn and Janelle like to walk over and grab a hot tasty lunch, while catching up with participants and staff.

Janelle said: "We come down for Toastie Tuesdays because we love the participants, we love the van. We come down for a chat and our regular toastie. Mine's a gluten free bacon, egg and cheese which is amazing."

Robyn added: "I love coming down to the Distinctive Options van, just seeing the adults being very happy and with Kevin and Jamie-Lee helping them."

"I love my egg, bacon and cheese toastie, (without tomato sauce !) with an oat milk latte."

"It's just a wonderful atmosphere."

After conquering the course, Joel made the most of his visit by enjoying some free jump time, bouncing around and having loads of fun!

What a great way to stay active and healthy while having a great time! 🕺

🍳 Cooking up independence! 🍴

Learning to cook isn’t just about food — it’s a powerful step toward independence. 💪

From saving money and time to choosing meals that suit your unique nutrition needs, cooking for yourself opens up a world of benefits. 🌍✨

Paul from Distinctive Options is doing just that through DO Bendigo’s Cuisine and Culture activity, where the group has been perfecting a classic French favourite: quiche Lorraine. 🇫🇷🥧

Looks amazing, tastes even better… and the confidence? Delicious. 😄👨‍🍳

About Us

Distinctive Options is a disability service provider spanning Northwest and Eastern Victoria. We are closing the divide and empowering change in people’s perception of disability within the workplace and want you to join our journey as we provide supported disability employment across our social enterprises.

The Opportunity

The DO Food Project is a new take on the typical café. Having operated in Gisborne since October 2022, we provide purposeful employment for people with disabilities in a natural work café environment.

As the Operations and Support Assistant for this dynamic disability enterprise, you will be pivotal in fostering empowerment and growth for our supported employees. Your commitment to our mission will drive positive change by creating inclusive opportunities for individuals with disabilities to thrive, contribute and grow in the DO Food Project Café.

In this role, you will be assisting our diverse café workers in preparing and plating food and beverages, delivering an excellent level of customer service, and assisting the Café Supervisor in the operations of the DO Food Project Cafe. Your dedication to promoting an inclusive world will be evident in your support of adaptive tools and techniques that empower all team members to participate and excel.

Collaboration will be at the heart of your responsibility as you work closely with diverse individuals to foster a culture of unity and shared achievement. Your support will extend beyond food quality, offering mentorship and guidance to team members and helping them build skills and confidence.

As an Operations and Support Assistant, you will contribute to the growth of the DO Food Project Café and help redefine societal perceptions of disability.

Join us in this meaningful journey of empowerment, growth and social change, where every action you take helps create a world where diversity is accepted, and opportunities are accessible to all.

For a confidential discussion and to find out more information about the position please contact Paul Pearman, Executive Business Development Manager on 0484 301 093.
