Difficulty focusing is often framed as a motivation problem, but more often it reflects physiology. Your brain relies on stable blood sugar, adequate nutrients and neurotransmitters, and a nervous system that is not constantly stuck in stress mode.

From a Chinese medicine perspective, brain fog can occur when clear Yang does not rise to the head, often alongside patterns affecting digestion or the Shen.

Brain fog is information about how the body is functioning.

I love carbs. I prescribe them more than I restrict them.

Somehow women were convinced that we should eat less, fast more, train harder and just “be disciplined” while our hormones are fluctuating monthly and our nervous systems are already carrying a bigger load.

We do not have the same metabolic demands as men.
And we definitely do not thrive on chronic under-fueling.

A woman who lifts, works, thinks, bleeds and wants stable hormones needs adequate energy. That includes carbohydrates.

Carbs support thyroid function, ovulation, progesterone production and nervous system regulation. They fuel performance. They reduce unnecessary cortisol spikes. They help you actually recover from training instead of digging a deeper hole.

Meanwhile we are praised for skipping breakfast, stretching out fasts and surviving on coffee.

If fasting works for you in a grounded, well-fueled body, that is one thing.
But for many women it is just another stressor layered on top of an already stressed system.

We are applauded for shrinking.
For taking up less space.
For proving how little we can survive on.

Meanwhile our cycles disappear, our sleep tanks and we call it “discipline.”

Under-eating is not a personality trait.
It’s a stress signal.

Fuel your body like it deserves to perform.

Current guidelines support clinical diagnosis and imaging such as ultrasound or MRI as appropriate pathways to begin management. Surgery is not automatically the first step.

That does not mean surgery has no place. It absolutely can be indicated in cases of severe disease, organ involvement or when conservative treatment has failed. But it should be justified, individualised and evidence based.

Recently in Melbourne there have been public investigations into alleged unnecessary endometriosis surgeries. Situations like this highlight why invasive procedures should never be routine or financially driven. They should be clinically necessary and patient centred.

Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory and neuroimmune condition. Cutting lesions does not automatically regulate the immune system, calm inflammation or address central sensitisation. For many women, a multimodal approach is more appropriate.

Acupuncture is one evidence informed tool that can reduce inflammatory signalling, modulate pain pathways and support hormonal regulation. It is not a replacement for surgery when surgery is required. But it is a valid part of comprehensive care.

You deserve treatment that is ethical, modern and tailored to your physiology.

Because I KNOW they didn’t teach you this at school 🙄
Irregularities often start long before they become an issue, being on top of it ensures you can see a problem a mile away. Don’t wait until something is wrong 🧡
