Renee Collins was delighted to be invited onto the Healthed Paediatric Podcast ✨

She had the pleasure of joining GP Rebecca Overton for a conversation about toileting difficulties in children, including toilet refusal, nappy dependence for pooing, readiness, motivation, and when specialist behavioural support may be helpful.

This is an area that so many families struggle with, and one that is often oversimplified. The reality is that toileting challenges are rarely about a child being “difficult” or a parent doing something wrong. More often, there are important developmental, behavioural, sensory, and environmental factors that need to be understood properly.

Renee is incredibly grateful to Healthed for the invitation and for the opportunity to contribute to a discussion that supports both clinicians and the families they work with.

Trauma-informed care is one of the most important, and most polarising, conversations in behavioural services right now.

Some argue ABA hasn’t done enough to incorporate it. Others argue it’s unnecessary, or even harmful to the discipline.

Neither camp is fully wrong. And that’s exactly why this conversation needs more nuance than it usually gets.

At Connected Care, Dr Adithyan (Dithu) Rajaraman is joining us virtually and is bringing that nuance.

His session will cover:
→ What trauma actually is, and why it matters specifically when supporting people who exhibit severe challenging behaviour
→ Four core commitments of trauma-informed care and how to practically embed them into individualised, culturally responsive ABA services
→ How to navigate the real disagreements within our field, with colleagues, caregivers, and clients

The goal isn’t to win an argument. It’s to leave with more capacity and more willingness to advocate for practice that is both effective and humane.

This is the kind of session that moves us beyond slogans and into something more honest.

Connected Care Conference
Sydney + online. 18–19 April.

Some conversations in our field sit quietly in the background.

This is one of them.

There is still a perception that BCBA is somehow “better” than CBA.

And for some clinicans, that may still be the path they choose.

But we need to be careful about the story we reinforce when we automatically place one above the other.

Both are minimum standards of competency.

What actually matters is what comes next.

How someone thinks.
How they practise.
How they keep learning.
How they respond to feedback.
How they support families.
How they uphold ethics.

That is the real standard.

Today, we’re celebrating Jess and Cecilia, two clinicians on our team who have reached an important milestone as Certified Behaviour Analysts.

And it matters.

Not just because of the credential.
But because of the work, growth, and commitment behind it.

This achievement reflects the clinicians they are becoming, and we are so proud of them both.

At Super Kids, we care about qualifications.

But we care just as much about what sits underneath them.

Integrity. Curiosity. Judgement. Humility. A commitment to ethical, person-centred practice ❤️✨

That is what builds excellent clinicians.

What do you think actually makes a great clinician?

If I was your behaviour analyst (a girl can dream 💛), here’s what I’d want you to know…

Behaviour is communication.

Not “naughty.”
Not manipulative.
Not attention-seeking.

Every behaviour serves a function. And if we don’t understand the *why*, we’re just guessing at solutions and they end up being just tips & tricks (that you e probably already tried..)

Before we try to reduce a behaviour, we should be asking:
What is this child trying to tell us?
What skill might be missing?
What support isn’t in place yet?

This information and assessment us make thoughtful decisions instead of reactive ones.
It shows us what’s working.
It protects children from unnecessary, restrictive approaches.

And the best outcomes?
They happen when families, educators and allied health professionals work together, with shared understanding and shared goals.

That’s what we believe in at Super Kids 💛

We’ve got you.

Parents, this one is for you.

Troy Fry will be hosting a parent workshop on Saturday 18th April, 3–5pm in Sydney to explore the core values of Essential for Living, including Must Have goals and the Necessary Nine.

This workshop isn’t about assessment or curriculum. It’s about the bigger picture, discussing advocacy and what meaningful, practical priorities can look like for your child and family.

It will be especially valuable for parents wanting to better understand:
✨ what really matters most
✨ how to think about meaningful goals
✨ how to advocate with greater clarity and confidence

Tickets are available now.

Choosing a behaviour analyst? Read this first.

Finding the right fit for your child can feel like a lot. And truthfully, it should be something you take your time with.

A good behaviour analyst is not just looking at goals on paper. They are looking at your child as a whole person 💕 their comfort, communication, strengths, needs, and quality of life.

When you are choosing support, look for someone who:
• has the right credentials
• uses a child-first, values-led approach
• welcomes parent involvement
• communicates openly and honestly
• includes your family in goal setting
• offers support that works in real life

The right support should feel collaborative, respectful, and clear.

Save this post for later, and share it with a parent who is starting the search ⚡️💛
