Qualia Occupational Therapy

Supporting development and enhancing participation from early childhood to high school We all love working with families and children.

Qualia Occupational Therapy for Children has been operating since 2010 in the Inner West of Sydney. Qualia (pronounced kwa–li–ah) is a theory explaining how unique individuals each perceive the world differently in relation to their sensory, emotional and environmental influences. All Qualia therapists have had paediatric experience before joining our team and participate in regular professional development. Our dynamic team offers extensive experience, practical skills and empathy when working with children. We assist children with motor and learning difficulties from preschool through to high school. Qualia offers comprehensive assessments based on areas of concern identified by a child, parents or teachers. Therapy is meaningful, addressing areas that are most important to a child and their family.

We were delighted to have some special guests at our Christmas lunch today!!! We had many cuddles!!! Wishing all our lovely families a very happy Christmas. Thank you for the joy and pleasure of supporting your children this year. The clinic is closed from the end of this week until the 12th January.

It’s that time of the year again!

Children beginning Kindergarten in 2026 are invited to join us for some fun and targeted goal driven therapy in a small group session across an intensive 2 day program.

This program focuses on strengthening development in areas such as:

- fine motor skills
- sensory regulation
- gross motor coordination
- self care independence
- letter & number recognition

Children will develop the ability to attend and follow instructions, remain seated at a table in a way that works for them, join in group activities and attend to their peers.

Dates: 20th & 21st Jan
Time: 9am - 12pm

Each school holidays the Qualia team like to pause and explore an area of clinical practice. Last school holidays we jumped into the curious topic of AI! We are excited to see the new technologies that will help the children we work with. We will share some of our favourites in the coming weeks!

The term “self-regulation” is a little misleading. It implies that our kids should be able to regulate themselves, on their own. This is definitely not the case. Yes, some of the “self” develops with time - but even as adults we reach out to others for comfort! At a young age - children need a regulated brain to calm and deescalate. As we enter a pretty busy time in the lead up to Christmas, a friendly reminder: let’s remember to stop, breathe and connect.

Our hearts melted when we got this photo of one of our cadet’s journal entries - he’s loved .agent.society so much and he is sad it is almost over! He, like his fellow cadet peers, has gotten so much out of this wonderful social skills program, with him and his parents noting improved confidence, and really applying what he is learning in the different interactions in his day. Amazing! 🤩

We were delighted to receive our order from our friends at Sound Slam just in time for a few rounds before the end of term! 🙌 We’ve been trialling this incredible game for a little while now and are so impressed with how we can modify the way we play to create fun & learning for kids of all ages and stages… what a win🏅 !
