🌟 Our Theme of the Week - Side Bend Flow 🌟

For our practice this week, we focused on stretching and strengthening our intercostal muscles as well as bringing a bit of balance into our minds 🀩

This week's poses were selected to create awareness around the side of our bodies as well as lengthen the abdominals, hips and thighs while improving our spinal flexibility πŸ˜‡

We also used the Pranayama practice of Alternative Nostril Breathing to find some balance between the right and left sides of our brain 🧠

🌟 I consciously attract positive energy to me by radiation positive energy from within.

🌟 I repel negativity by blessing it and moving on, not be feeding it with more judgement or fear.

🌟 Negative energy is really a plea for love; I acknowledge the places that are lacking in love, light and positivity and I choose to give those qualities where they're needed most.

🌟 This is how I attract more of what I do want and enjoy.

It may seem a little bit "hippy" ✌️ but I do believe in the power of mantras and the law of attraction πŸ’« The whole existence of IMMY is a testament to it πŸ€—

During each and every class, I send each person attending a little bit of love, light and positivity because you are the energy I want in my life 😘

🌟 Our Theme of the Week - Traditional and Modern Fusion Flow 🌟

For our practice this week, we threw both traditional and modern yoga elements into a big mixing bowl and ... voila ... we made ourselves a nice little fusion class cake πŸ€©πŸŽ‚

This week's poses and sequences were selected to explore some more "up-to-date" stretching and strengthening techniques while honouring the original practice of yoga πŸ˜‡

We were also very brave and used the sarced chant of OM to help balance and harmonise our energic vibrations (and because it just feels so nice) πŸ•‰

1) Disco Flow - 5pm - Bring on the Fun and Dance your Stress Away

2) Zen Flow - 6pm - Less Movement, More Meditation & Longer Face Massages

Each class is $18 - Come to one or stay for both πŸ™Œ

Everyone is welcome - no meditation or dance experience required 🫢

Please bring a yoga mat for both classes, sneakers are highly recommended for Disco Flow and a pillow is highly recommended for Zen Flow.

🀩 This is a photo of one of my first yoga classes as a qualified teacher.

It was a Sunday morning Pop-Up Class, we squeezed 13 people onto our front verandah at our old house, and I remember planning the class down to the number of breaths I would instruct people to take in each pose πŸ˜‚

It was also the class that I realised that teaching with a 3 year old floating around, trying to steal the show, was a challenge (you'd think I'd have put that together a little sooner 😳)

On that day, I learnt a valuable lesson my yoga-teacher teacher had been trying to instil in me throughout my training - your class doesn't need to be perfect and, in fact, it's better if it's not. Let go of the preparation, be in the moment, feel the connection and feel the joy πŸ™Œ

Thank you to everyone who has ever attended one of my classes, wherever and whenever they were - your support means the world to me 😘

🌟 Our Theme From Last Week - Building Strength Flow 🌟

For our practice this week, we focused on how we can use yoga poses to strengthening our bodies while maintaining a strong sense of inner peace πŸ™

This week's poses were selected to bring heat and energy to different muscle groups to help us build endurance, balance and awareness πŸ’ͺ

We also practised tuning into our inner strength to allow it to brightly shine outwards 🀩

I absolutely love finding new poses to explore and share

Here is just one of the many, many yoga books I use for inspiration when designing our sequences. This book has 740 pages of gorgeous photography that allow me to feel inspired and, at times, a little perplexed at how to get your body in and out of some of the poses πŸ€”

No matter how long you have been practising (or teaching), you are always a student; always learning, always exploring and always growing. This is the useful concept is called a Beginner's Mind 🧠

A Beginner’s Mind gives you great freedom to be open to new methods and gives you permission to try new poses. The very nature of a Beginner’s Mind is to be curious and eager to try new things πŸ™Œ

So, next time you come onto your mat, do so with a Beginner's Mind because there might just be some new poses coming your way 🀩

🌟 Our Theme From Last Week - Vagus Nerve Flow 🌟

For our practice this week, we focused on our vagus nerve and how it plays such a vital role in our emotional and physical health πŸ™

Being able to shift effectively from our flight, fight, freeze and fawn response (our sympathetic nervous system) into our rest, digest and regenerate mode (our parasympathetic nervous system) helps to lower stress levels and be more present in the moment.

There are lots of simple ways to regulate or 'tone' this nerve including yoga, meditation (of course πŸ˜‰), audible breathing, relaxing the belly, half smiling and my newly-discovered technique (if you'd like a video of it, please let me know).

Guess what??
You can try something new .... and not know how it do it .... and that's ok πŸ™Œ

I remember being told in High School that art was not "Imogene's strong point" which I computed in my brain as "Imogene is not good at art", therefore "Imogene shouldn't do art" and this was the story I told myself from that point onwards πŸ˜•

Over the last few years, I have been challenging this story and embracing my artistic side with watercolour classes. And though I'm no Picasso, I really enjoy painting and it's a lovely activity to do with friends and my kids πŸ‘©β€πŸŽ¨

As adults, we fear being "bad" or "failing" at new things so we tend to fall into patterns of just sticking to what we know. This may seem like a safe option but it has, in fact, been proved to affect our mental health and long term physical health.

The Harvard Medical School has found that "challenging your brain, staying physically active, and being socially engaged may help keep our thinking skills sharp." 🀩

The fantastic thing about yoga is that you can not be good or bad at it - you can simply do or don't do yoga 🌟

Because you are listening into your body, there is no right or wrong. It is a truly liberating realisation ☺️

So, if you have believed that yoga is not for you, or your body can't do yoga or your mind can't slow down, maybe it's time to challenge those stories and give it a go πŸ™Œ

🌟 Our Theme From Last Week - Stress Relieving Flow 🌟

We know that yoga helps us to release tension but this week we incorporated a few different techniques to increase our ability to calm our bodies and our minds πŸ€—

Through specific pranayama, somatic movement and mantra, we allowed ourselves to breath steadily, shake it off and reconnect with feeling safe 🫢
