Guess what??
You can try something new .... and not know how it do it .... and that's ok π
I remember being told in High School that art was not "Imogene's strong point" which I computed in my brain as "Imogene is not good at art", therefore "Imogene shouldn't do art" and this was the story I told myself from that point onwards π
Over the last few years, I have been challenging this story and embracing my artistic side with watercolour classes. And though I'm no Picasso, I really enjoy painting and it's a lovely activity to do with friends and my kids π©βπ¨
As adults, we fear being "bad" or "failing" at new things so we tend to fall into patterns of just sticking to what we know. This may seem like a safe option but it has, in fact, been proved to affect our mental health and long term physical health.
The Harvard Medical School has found that "challenging your brain, staying physically active, and being socially engaged may help keep our thinking skills sharp." π€©
The fantastic thing about yoga is that you can not be good or bad at it - you can simply do or don't do yoga π
Because you are listening into your body, there is no right or wrong. It is a truly liberating realisation βΊοΈ
So, if you have believed that yoga is not for you, or your body can't do yoga or your mind can't slow down, maybe it's time to challenge those stories and give it a go π
