A Thursday without disco lights just doesn’t feel like a Thursday night anymore πŸͺ©πŸ˜†

So, since I’m at Agnes, I thought it would be cool to replace Disco Flow with my first ever Clubbercise class πŸ™ŒπŸΌ

A massive thank you to Val for inviting me along and to Cath at Clubberise Agnes for such a fun, fantastic class πŸ‘―

Don't forget to register for our upcoming FREE Seniors Yoga classes, thanks to the Regional Council.

We have two sessions available - please feel free to attend one or both:

Wednesday 8 October at 10.30am
Wednesday 29 October at 10.30am

These sessions will include a simple yoga sequence, guided meditation, and a soothing face massage.

All equipment will provided and all levels welcome.

Of course, if you have a yoga mat that you would like to bring along, that would be fantastic.

So there will be no IMMY classes from:
Wednesday 1st October to Sunday 5th October

Classes will be back on Monday 6th October πŸ™Œ

🌟 Our Theme From Last Week - Being Present 🌟

For our practice this week, we focused on how we can use yoga poses to create mindfulness and a deeper level of awareness πŸ™

This week's poses were selected to be a mix of familiar and less familiar sequences to challenge the mind to stay connected to our bodies and breath πŸ’ͺ

Our mudra for the week was the Hakini Mudra which is associated with brain power and balancing the mind.

We also continued to check in with ourselves by asking the question - Is my mind and my body in the same place at this moment? 🀩

🌟 Our Theme From Last Week - Hips Flow 🌟

Ahhh, our hips ... the holder of the majority of our physical and emotion tension.

And, as I regularly say in class, it is so much healthier to let this tension out in a yoga class than in a road rage incident.

Our hips support our posture and, by stretching and strengthening them, we can improve our balance, help to reduce back pain and create more freedom within our bodies.

Emotionally, this part of our body can hold stress as well as the burden of unspoken feelings so we used the Surya or Sun Mudra to help us tune into our intuition and listen more closely inwards

In celebration of Seniors Month 2025, and in collaboration with the Regional Council, IMMY invites seniors to enjoy a free gentle 60-minute yoga classes designed to promote relaxation, movement, and mindfulness.

Sessions include a simple yoga sequence, guided meditation, and a soothing face massage, with all equipment provided and all levels welcome.

πŸ€— Public Displays of Yoga πŸ€—

This photo was taken by my daughter at the Goondoon Street Instalment of the Luminous Festival in Gladstone as few years ago.

It was magical to see our main street lit up so beautifully and, although I'm not usually one for PDY (Public Displays of Yoga), the rainbow lights were just too tempting for me πŸ˜†

Yoga, in my opinion, isn't a performance or a spectator sport (it only works if you actually do it πŸ˜‰) but maybe, if we did do it more regularly in public (I'm thinking like Tai Chi is practised in the parks around the world), it would open people's minds to what yoga is and what it isn't 🧘

To help us all come to terms with the reality that it is now SEPTEMBER 😳, we celebrated the season of Spring with a twisty, heart-opening, energy-moving practice πŸ’“

We also used the Padma Mudra, which represents the Lotus Flower, to encourage us to look for the light and bloom beautifully πŸͺ·

🌟 β€œYoga practice can make us more and more sensitive to subtler and subtler sensations in the body. Paying attention to and staying with finer and finer sensations within the body is one of the surest ways to steady the wandering mind.” ― Ravi Ravindra

I love that we call yoga a 'practice' because that is exactly what it is meant to be - we are practising tuning into our bodies, we are practising quietening our minds, my gosh we are even practising breathing πŸ˜†

And we practise so that, when we step off our mat, we can take some of those skills, some of that knowledge, some of the precious connection we have discovered into our lives and make our world a little bit brighter β˜€οΈ

πŸ™ I hope you will join me for a yoga practice this week!

🌟 Our Theme of the Week - Forgiveness Flow 🌟

For our practice this week, we looked at the act of forgiveness - for ourselves and for other - and how cultivating compassion is a vital element of creating empathy πŸ₯Ή

By extracting wisdom from difficult situations, we can help ourselves to grow and extend our awareness 🫢

We share the Varadu Mudra (The Gesture of Granting Wishes or Mercy) and paired this gesture with a powerful forgiveness-based mantra πŸ™Œ

The poses for this week's classes were selected to allow us to let go of control and instead by present in the moment.

This quote by the inspiring Brene Brown was offered during meditation as a way of tying our theme, mudra, mantra and poses all together:

"Self-compassion is key because when we're able to be gentle with ourselves in the midst of shame, we're more likely to reach out, connect, and experience empathy. "
