The Menopause journey - HOW ARE YOU?
Is it just me or was Menopause taboo when our mums went through it? I was quite young when I remember snippets of my mum struggling with menopause. Periods arriving unexpectedly when we were at sporting events, seeing the irritability and emotions for the smallest things (completely valid, not discounting that). But, I wonder if it had of been an open conversation, why we were feeling like that would scenarios have been a little bit easier? I did understand, I remember helping my mum wash her beautiful dress in a public toilet sink due to an unexpected flood of an unexpected period and my little mind was thinking ‘ I understand and I feel for you’ whilst I watched her react sternly to avoid embarrassment and abruptly saying ‘it’s a part of life’. A true statement that, but I feel we needed to share this moment openly to help her sanity.
It is a subject that I find so interesting in this current world. Social media is full of supplements that are going to save us from the ‘MEAN’OPAUSE. Some valid and some definitely not so valid. It leaves us quite confused as to which way to turn to help us. Menopause is not a generic journey, yes we all get the same outcome, but we are definitely not all fit for the same supplements, the same dosage, the same anything. There is no woman the same.
I feel it is something that us as women now seem to be far more comfortable and willing to talk about, share our journeys, share what worked for you, what's working for you or didn’t work for you. Don’t fall for the online supplements if they aren’t working for you, instead spend the dollars in getting a thorough hormone/blood test through a Naturopath to see exactly where you are at and to help keep them in regular check.
Our hormones are a blessing and a bastard all at the same time!
Whilst it is a part of life and a journey that we really are privileged to go through I really hope that you feel encouraged to talk about it, be open about it, to your kids, to your partners, to your housemate, yoga group, to your friends to your health practitioner.. Journeys are meant to be taken with the comfort of not feeling alone and you’re not feeling completely mad.
Finding what works for you is about asking questions and taking the next step to getting your bounce back. We have some fabulous Naturopaths in town Nature's House Naturopathy, Eliza Barwick Naturopath in store. Come on in and we can chat and point you in the right direction ❤️THN♥️
