If you are diagnosed as being dyslexic it is important to try and find the cause.
Sometimes the cause is Visual Processing Disorder which can make the words appear to move, blur, glow, swirl or double, or can even make white paper extremely hard to look at concentrate on.

Can Irlen coloured filters help with reading?

How can wearing a pair of glasses with coloured lenses help someone read?

The answer is simple...

The tinted lenses are actually filters which stop some of the wavelengths from light (rainbow) from entering the brain and visual cortex through the eyes, and stops them from interfering in the processing of the visual information seen by the eyes.
For people with Irlen Syndrome that filtering stops the words from seemingly moving, blurring, disappearing, swirling or jumping and makes the white paper more comfortable to look at.
They don't teach the words, they simply allow the wearer to see the words clearer and so they are then able to read the words they know and go on to more easily learn new words.
