If your New Year's resolution included exercise, here are some tips to know how long it takes to see results!

To achieve your fitness-related goals remember;

- Heart Rate, improves within a couple of weeks. Resting heart rate can decrease by up to 1 beat/min in sedentary individuals with each week of aerobic training, at least for a few weeks. Other studies have shown smaller reductions with fewer than 5 beats following up to 20 weeks of aerobic training

- Blood Pressure, one study showed that simply increasing your step count can lead to a reduction in systolic blood pressure of ~4 mmHg. This may seem small, but a 5 mmHg drop reduces the chance of death by stroke by 14%! - give this a few weeks to notice

- Aerobic Fitness (aka V02 Max), improves within a month or two

- Muscle Fitness, an individual can see a 25 to 100% improvement in their muscular fitness within three to six months – provided a regular resistance program is followed

- Weight Loss, a study with 52 overweight males and females reported a weight loss of 7% over 16.8 weeks with exercise alone. The amount of activity completed was 7.4 (+/- 0.5) hours per week.

- Mental Health - changes in as little as 10 minutes!

The benefits are endless, remember to stay consistent and keep positive. Bring on 2023! ⭐️

H E L L O!

I’m Tiffany! Owner of Get You Moving! I wanted you all to see the face behind the biz! I have been working as an Exercise Physiologist since 2017. I love my job and what I do and I’d love to help you achieve your goals.

Todays tip is WATER! Our bodies need water for so many reasons! We of course “know” this, but when it comes to actually drinking water, well.. it’s a battle that even I struggle with!

If you are someone who struggles drinking water, then I highly recommend finding one of these water bottles!! This one is from Kmart and I know for me it’s a game changer!

Tiff xx

It’s estimated that around 1.7 million Australians are living with this diabetes. Worryingly, one in two people don’t know that they have it. If left unmanaged, diabetes can lead to blindness, amputation, kidney failure, heart attack and stroke. Diabetes contributed to 11% of deaths in Australia in 2017.

We want Aussie families to understand how to reduce their risk of developing diabetes, spot the warning signs, and manage diabetes if diagnosed.

There’s no known cure for diabetes, but exercise can be powerful tool for managing this condition. Exercise can:

- Help insulin work more efficiently
- Maintain or achieve a healthy body composition
- Lower blood pressure
- Reduce risk of heart disease
- Enhance Mood
- Improve immunity
- Reduce the risk of heart disease

Whether you’re currently inactive, at risk of diabetes or have been diagnosed with diabetes, exercise can help. But it’s important to get the right advice.

Exercise physiologists are specially trained to understand the complexities of this condition and can help you to exercise safely with diabetes.

Working with an exercise physiologist has made a huge difference to Alan's mobility, confidence and quality of life.

Exercise has been shown to reduce the risk of developing some of Australia’s biggest killers, including heart disease, dementia, diabetes, mental illness, and many types of cancer. And it’s not just about preventing illness. Regular exercise also helps to boost your energy levels, make you happier, and improve your general well-being.

Despite the health benefits, half of all Australians don’t get enough exercise.

If this sounds familiar and you need help getting moving, then perhaps seeing an exercise physiologist is a good start.

Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs) are university-qualified allied health professionals. They specialise in designing and delivering safe and effective exercise interventions for people with chronic medical conditions, injuries or disabilities. Services provided by an AEP are also claimable under compensable schemes such as Medicare and covered by most private health insurers. When it comes to the prescription of exercise, they are the most qualified professionals in Australia.
