Hi everyone! My name’s Giaan and I’m the owner of Petal Play Therapy Gladstone 🫧👦🏽🌷🧸

I opened my playroom to families seven months ago and in that time have been lucky enough to invite over forty families to the world of play therapy both in-person and via Teleplay!

I’m so honoured to be able to support children aged two and older experiencing:
♡ Behavioural concerns (meltdowns, defiance, withdrawal etc.)
♡ Bullying and harassment
♡ Difficulty expressing verbally
♡ Domestic and family violence
♡ Emotional and mental health concerns
♡ Exposure to traumatic events
♡ Grief and loss
♡ Physical, emotional and verbal abuse
♡ Sexual abuse and sexualised behaviours
♡ Significant life changes (parent separation, relocation, new sibling, new school etc.)

If you’re interested in play therapy for your child, I currently have a few appointments available for immediate start, and a waitlist for most other appointment times 📋🎀

Choices at home is something I discuss with parents every week as a play therapist.

Allowing children to make their own decisions is a vital part of raising confident and capable little people - but this doesn’t mean parents should lose their authority or responsibility to keep their child safe.

Knowing which choices are appropriate for children can sometimes feel confusing, so I thought I’d share some decisions that help children build confidence and independence (as well as those that should be guided by parents) 🤍

Sand Tray Play 🌷👦🏽🫧🍄

I’m so excited to share that my sand tray is finally back in the playroom this week!

Sand tray play is hugely symbolic and therapeutic for children, using sand and minis to create little worlds that reflect their inner experiences.

Let’s talk about bodies and consent 👧🏽🌷

It’s super important that we’re talking to our children about bodies and consent, but where do we start?

Learning about body safety doesn’t need to happen in one day, in fact, it’s often easier and more developmentally appropriate to talk about it over time.

In the early years (age 2-4), it can be as simple as:
♡ Naming body parts using correct terminology
♡ Talking about personal space
♡ Letting children practice saying yes and no

As children grow older (age 4-7), conversations can gently expand to:
♡ Body autonomy
♡ Safe vs unsafe touch
♡ Respecting other people’s boundaries

And for older children, these discussions can include:
♡ More nuanced consent (friendships and relationships)
♡ Peer pressure and feeling safe to speak up
♡ Ongoing respect for self and others
