Look at you absolutely killing it in your business!… but wait, what’s with that subtle feeling you’re getting that it will all fall apart?

Pain and Pleasure

Our brains are hard wired to seek pleasure. Especially at the subconscious level.

It moves us away from what has been experienced as painful and towards pleasure.

The funny thing is that what feels good to one person, might feel like hell to another.

For example for one person, doing their taxes might feel amazing because they know they will get money back into their pocket - or they feel good about paying taxes because they know it contributes to the betterment of society at large. But for someone else it's pure pain knowing that they need to pay money that they may not have.

As you can see, it all relies on the meaning, or the context that we associate with a task as to whether we enjoy it or not. The hard part is that sometimes our body has a visceral response to something it doesn't want to do because it has caused pain in the past. This can sometimes be labelled by psychologists to be a 'trauma response' - the bed memory was stored in the body and acts as a trigger later down the track.

The cool thing is that we can re-wire our responses to various stimuli. Many successful entrepreneurs say things like "do the hard thing first" or "just do it" but it might not be that easy.

Here's something fun to try:
- Write the thing down you need to do that you are resisting doing or speaking about with someone.
- Write down why it might feel painful.
- For each reason you've written why it might feel uncomfortable, write a reason why it will be fun, beneficial or good to do the thing... what success you may have from doing the thing.
- Lastly cross out all writing about the reasons why you don't want to do it and re-read the positive reasons why you should do it.
- Give it a go and see if the emotional charge behind the 'painful activity' has been diffused.

‘When we are ungrounded, we can’t get unhinged.’ .abrams ❤️‍🔥

And it’s so true! You can’t live your wildest dreams, be your most epic, untamed, unruly, powerful, giving no f&$ks self - when you don’t have your foundations sorted.

When the tangible parts of our lives and are unstable, it drains our energy leaving us exhausted and snappy.

I know what it’s like to feel ungrounded:
🔲 My relationship was shaky for a time.
🔲 The homes I’ve lived in have had issues: too small, rental being sold, flooding, mould etc.

On a tangible level this made me preoccupied, worried, distracted… but on an energetic level, I didn’t have capacity for my clients at times because my foundation, my home, wasn’t supporting me.

But really, what was happening is that - I wasn’t supporting me. I wasn’t advocating for my needs, I was people pleasing, over giving and not allowing myself to get the support I needed to thrive.

And this has been a theme that’s played out over and over.

Relationships
Work
Money
Children
Health

These are the pillars that make us feel grounded and safe when everything is flowing smoothly. This is what enables us to either thrive or go into survival mode.

If you’re not feeling solid here, it will show up in your nervous system unless you sort it out at the deeper level.

It also reflects our ability to get and receive help.

As women, we sometimes struggle to keep it all afloat.

And then years pass and we’ve forgotten how to actually have fun. We’ve forgotten what lights us up.

We forget to
💝 be creative
💝 play
💝 crack jokes
💝 love on the people around us without worrying about the laundry, meal prepping or sorting out the paperwork…. 
💝 And we often forget to make love just for the fun of it.

Because our constant state of existence is ‘hectic mode’ so it becomes hard to switch off and let go.

And that’s so sad. Because that’s really what life is about.
Life is too short not to enjoy the juicy parts.

I’m all about:
✨ Feeling loved up
✨ Being rich AF
✨ Laughing till it hurts
✨ Having the freedom to do what you want, when you want.
✨ To have the energy to be spontaneous
