Spring has sprung! How gorgeous is my new backdrop! And even after a few weeks they still smell amazing every time I walk into the clinic. A big thank you to the very talented .brennan78 for your amazing floral artistry breathing my vision to life.

Homemade beef jerky is the perfect snack for lunchboxes, nature adventures and picnics. If your kids are constantly saying “I’m hungry” then protein rich snacks like these are your friend!
Here's my go-to recipe:

1. Slice beef (I use rump steak) thinly, about 4mm but its a very forgiving recipe so don’t fuss too much about this (either freeze first or just use a sharp knife!)
2. Mix a simple marinade: about 1 generous teaspoon each of salt, pepper, garlic/onion powder and coconut sugar mixed into about 1/2 cup of water, or enough to cover your beef.
3. Marinate for 6-24 hours.
4. Lay slices on a wire rack and bake at 80°C for 4-6 hours. You’ll know when it is ready as it will be a darker brown colour and deliciously chewy, not tender. If you need to twist it to break it, it’s ready!
5. Keep in the fridge in an air-tight container for at least a week. (You can also freeze beef jerky however ours never makes it that far with lots of small mouths to feed). Enjoy! Tag a friend who needs extra lunchbox ideas.

So many people I see in clinic are not eating enough protein.

You need 1.2-2.2 grams of protein per kilogram of bodyweight each day. Aim for closer to 2g of protein per kg of body weight on the days that you exercise.

Protein plays many important roles in the body...

- Builds and repairs your cells
- Maintains your energy levels
- Helps your liver to function (detox!)

Protein is extra important if your hormones are out of balance, a common reason people seek out naturopathic support.

Meat, eggs and dairy are great forms of protein and readily absorbed, however if you are looking for plant based options consider lentils, chickpeas, tofu, quinoa, nuts and seeds.

I personally love adding collagen powder in a smoothie for an extra protein hit that I know my skin will also benefit from. (I also add collagen powder into lots of my children's snacks to keep them fuller for longer!)

Djeran, Autumn is here, and it’s time for winter prep…

The cool mornings have arrived, a sign that winter is right around the corner! 🌬️ This is a great time to start thinking about how to support your family’s immune systems in the coming cooler months. 💪
Here are some tips:
* Sunshine Power! ☀️ Djeran’s sunny cooler days are perfect for soaking up some vitamin D, essential for a healthy immune system. Get outside with your family for walks, picnics or get some gardening done. If you have low vitamin D then now is the time to incorporate a supplement into your health regime. (We like to see a vitamin D level of 100 nmol/L for optimal health!)
* Happy Guts! 🍎 Our gut health plays a big role in immunity. Focus on including plenty of fruits, veggies, and whole grains in your family’s diet, these foods contain the prebiotics that your probiotics (good gut bacteria) like to eat. If you haven’t had probiotics for a while or have been on antibiotics, you might like to ask your naturopath about how you can support your gut health through probiotic support. Not all probiotics are created equal, and each strain of probiotic has its own role in health.
* Be Prepared! 🤧 Stock your natural medicine cabinet with natural remedies for coughs and colds. Consider having a well-stocked freezer with winter-warming soups and stews for when illness strikes. 🍲

Embrace the changing seasons and take proactive steps to stay healthy throughout winter. What are your favourite ways to boost your family’s immune system? Share your tips in the comments below! 👇
