Verbinding (formerly Hans van de Graaff & Associates) are independent National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) registered providers of both Specialist Support Coordination (Level 3) and Support Coordination (Level 2), based in the south eastern and bayside suburbs of Melbourne. They provide capacity building supports for NDIS participants. The business was established in 2018 in response to the significant demand for quality, well connected, support coordination. Hans van de Graaff has worked in senior leadership positions in the Victorian disability and mental health sectors since 1989. He has a strong understanding and empathy for the needs of people living with a disability and/or enduring mental illness and is committed to supporting them to live a full life. He is supported by a team of twelve people, all experienced and skilled professionals drawn from a variety of backgrounds. They are all committed to providing quality support coordination to enable their clients to achieve their goals as stated in their NDIS plans. Supporting this team are a number of senior consultants all with significant experience and knowledge in mental health, disability and knowledge of the NDIS.

A great report from the Grattan Institute. Hopefully it will lead to much needed reform.

The NDIS is failing tens of thousands of profoundly disabled Australians. Here’s a four-point plan to help fix the problem.

This is a horrific story. But a reminder that we need to listen to our participants in whatever way they are communicating to us. Sometimes we write these off as Behaviours of Concern when, instead, we should see them as Behaviours of Protest - they are telling us something we need to understand!

I dread to think what would have happened if this woman did not have devoted parents.

NDIS Minister Bill Shorten has vowed he will seek a life ban on Lee-Anne Mackey’s former carers working with vulnerable people, after they were caught on CCTV bullying and abusing her.

A must read. We also support many of the changes emanating from the NDIS review but it should not be at the cost of choice and control.

Some of you may have seen this on Four Corners last night. It's a story that does not surprise us. We have had several clients living in SRS accommodation where we have been suspicious of what level of service is being provided. Where there is strong family involvement it reduces our concerns because geneally families will advocate for their family member.

However, where the family connection and support is no longer existing, as is often the case where it involves a history of serious psychosocial disability and/or substance abuse and involvement with the justice system, those clients are highly vulnerable to exploitation. And, sadly as this story shows, there are plenty of unscrupulous providers, and not just SRS providers, who take advantage.

I am not sure what the answer is. Forcing all SRS providers to be registered and therefore regularly audited may help. Having Community Visitors go in may also help. Apart from the rorting of tax dollars it is terrible that the people living in SRS' are not getting access to the quality of supports that they deserve.

People living with disabilities are being coerced into rented accommodation by unscrupulous operators who can drain their NDIS funding and leave them with little, if any, support.
