The Swedish Pilates Studio is a boutique Pilates Studio located in beautiful Glen Iris on Glen Iris Rd just opposite from Ferndale Park. I offer Pilates in small (mat Pilates and Reformer), friendly and personal classes (6 participants), with exercises that are gentle and safe, but very effective. I want to provide a place where you can meet like-minded people, gain inspiration and recharge your energy.

Every Pilates exercise can be adjusted for different levels, but it can also be changed to create new challenges or simply add variation. For example, with the Pelvic Lift, I think we have more than 10 variations and progressions. That means we never get bored and the body never runs out of new challenges. By changing small details like balance, resistance, tempo, range of motion, or coordination, the same exercise can feel completely different and continue to build strength, control, and body awareness.

We do a lot of glute work in Pilates—and for good reason. They’re the largest muscle group in the body and so important for how we move every day.
The glute muscles are made up of three parts: gluteus maximus, medius, and minimus. Together, they help you sit, stand, walk, run, jump, and lift heavy objects. They also play a key role in stabilizing the pelvis—helping prevent knee and lower back pain, and reducing the risk of hamstring strains and ankle sprains.
But the glutes don’t work alone—they’re part of the posterior chain that runs from your heels all the way up to your neck.
Strong glutes matter, but they’re only truly effective when working together with the entire lower body.
