In this interview, the CEO of the UK’s National Deaf Children’s Society — himself a father of a deaf child — speaks about how powerful it is to see George from Peppa Pig diagnosed with hearing loss and visiting an audiologist.
For many children with hearing loss, seeing a character on TV sitting in an audiology clinic, learning about hearing aids, and getting help to hear better is incredibly meaningful.
Representation like this matters more than people realise.
It shows children that hearing loss is normal, supported, and nothing to hide. It helps them feel seen. It helps them feel included. And it helps families realise they are not alone on this journey.
Dr Vee is a parent to a child with hearing loss, so we know how important it is for children to see themselves reflected in the world around them.
As an audiologist, she also knows how powerful early support can be.
Moments like this help remove stigma and build confidence for the next generation of children growing up with hearing loss.
Thank you, Peppa Pig, for taking such an important step toward inclusion. 👂✨
