Developed in the Netherlands by two women from TU Delft, the Lilium offers a gentler, more human-centered take on the traditional “duck bill” speculum 🌷🔧🧬.

The goal: to reduce pain and anxiety during gynecological exams and make preventive care more accessible. The crowdfunding campaign quickly exceeded its target, showing strong support for redesigning outdated tools in women’s health.

With a prototype on the way, this Dutch innovation could mark a real shift in clinical design.

A team of us has been trying to put some measured common sense into the issue of s*xed and des*xed language in the area of women’s health. Midwives will find this paper useful in trying to figure out what is going on and how we can move ahead with respect and inclusivity without being part of the eradication of women and their very unique needs.

For too long women have been invisible and we cannot have that happened again just when their voices are being finally heard and their needs are finally being researched.

What is happening in the US is a disgusting hunt of LGBTQA+ people and it is horrifying. We in no way agree with this but have we gone too far and are we losing women’s voices and needs, and in the attempt to be inclusive why is it women that are being eradicated from language and s*x being omitted as an important factor in research? If we can’t have these important discussions in a measured and respectful way there is little hope for the human race.
