Most shoulder pain doesn’t come from a single injury, it develops over time from muscle imbalance, weakness, or underuse.
💡 Here’s what that really means:
1️⃣ When the shoulder isn’t moving through its full range regularly, small stabilizing muscles (like your rotator cuff and scapular muscles) start to weaken.
2️⃣ The stronger, larger muscles begin to compensate, creating tension, poor mechanics, and eventually, pain.
3️⃣ Rest alone doesn’t fix this. In fact, too much rest can make it worse by reinforcing weakness.
✅ What helps instead:
Gradual strength training that targets the rotator cuff and shoulder blade stabilizers
Restoring mobility through guided movement (not passive stretching alone)
Improving posture and load tolerance so your shoulder feels safe to move again
Rebuilding coordination between your shoulder, neck, and thoracic spine
Your shoulder isn’t fragile, it’s adaptable. With the right movement and strength plan, pain often improves faster than people expect.
👋 If you’ve been told to “just rest” or that “it’s your age,” you deserve better.
Our physiotherapists at Glenhaven Physiotherapy Centre can help you retrain your shoulder safely and get back to the activities you love, stronger than before.
